1. Objectives The main objective of the seminar is to support the ratification and, later on, the implementation of the Istanbul Convention and further harmonisation of national legislation aiming at combating violence against women and domestic violence in Ukraine. In this, parliamentarians have a great role to play. Indeed, one major innovation of the Istanbul Convention is the parliamentary dimension in the monitoring of its implementation. It also aims at supporting dialogue and co-operation between representatives of the Parliament and civil society and to promote public consultation in the policy-making process. 2. Participants The participants are members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, representing Committees working on the process of ratification of the Istanbul Convention and bringing relevant national legislation in line with the Convention standards. Working languages of the seminar will be English, French, German and Ukrainian. 3. Background documents - Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (2011); - PACE Resolution 1963 (2013) and Recommendation 2030 (2013) on Violence against women in Europe - PACE Resolution 2084 (2015) on Promoting best practices in tackling violence against women 4.
