Introduction Rainforest Alliance is a growing network of people who are inspired and committed to working together to achieve our mission of conserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods. Policy: countries authorized for certification The countries listed in section 3 of this document (Countries Approved for Certification Activities) are approved for Rainforest Alliance certification based on the Rainforest Alliance 2017 Sustainable Agriculture Standard and its related certification documents. The countries listed in section 3.1 of this document (Additional Rules for Bulgaria, Germany, Poland and Serbia) are only approved for Rainforest Alliance certification under condition of Authorized certification bodies (CBs) compliance with sections 3.1.a) and b). CBs that wish to carry out Rainforest Alliance certification in these countries must seek approval from Rainforest Alliance as indicated in Rainforest Alliance Authorization Requirements for Certification Bodies. To achieve authorization for a particular country mentioned in this policy, CBs must demonstrate that they have the experienced personnel to audit in that country and understand the risks to compliance with Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard criteria. Spain 3.1 Additional rules for Bulgaria, Germany, Poland and Serbia a) Any Rainforest Alliance authorized CB may conduct audits in Bulgaria, Germany, Poland and Serbia, only under the following conditions: i. Before conducting an audit in these four countries, the CB shall assess the applicability of the applicable Rainforest Alliance standards and certification 5

documents within the context of the specific country. The assessment shall cover at minimum possible gaps in the standard criteria, applicable local legislation and compliance risk for labor criteria. ii. The CB shall submit this assessment to sas@ra.org for the technical analysis of the Rainforest Alliance. iii. Based on its technical analysis, the Rainforest Alliance may issue specific policies, guidance or training elements as a condition to authorize certification activities in these four countries. b) The Rainforest Alliance will evaluate the first cases of certification in these four countries to further understand applicability challenges for the implementation of the Rainforest Alliance 2017 Sustainable Agriculture Standard and revise or issue the respective policies, guidance or training elements for these countries. The Rainforest Alliance will inform CBs accordingly. 6
