Stephen was an early member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and developed glazes and cameo wares. Mr. Leftwich is himself a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and is the author of Pisgah Forest and Nonconnah: The Potteries of Walter B. Stephen. He began studying the historical techniques of Western North Carolina pottery in the 1970s. In addition to presenting a multimedia talk, Mr. Leftwich will display examples of this pottery style. There is a permanent display of Stephen's pottery at the Main Library in Hendersonville. Support for this program is provided by the Friends of the Library.
