Provisional Appointment Timeline 2. Statement of Candidacy 3. Candidate Questionnaire A vacancy now exists on the Union School District Board of Trustees due to the retirement of Cindy Goodsell. The Board of Trustees has made the decision to fill the vacancy by making a provisional appointment. The appointment will be for a period beginning the effective date of appointment and ending November 2018, when there will be a regularly scheduled District Board election to fill the seat for which the appointment was made. Interested parties may pick up an application packet at the Union School District Office. The packet may also be downloaded from the District s web site at www.unionsd.org. Completed application packets which consists of the Statement of Candidacy and Candidate Questionnaire must be submitted to and received by the Union School District Office, 5175 Union Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124 or via email to clayd@unionsd.org by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. The inclusion of a resume is optional. The Board will screen the application packets and will identify candidates to interview. Interviews will take place on Monday, February 6 th starting at 5 p.m. Individuals selected for an interview will be notified by Friday, February 3 rd. The Board will select a finalist and the individual will be appointed at the February 13 th Board of Trustees Meeting. Wednesday, January 18, 2017: Board Candidate Informational Forum for interested candidates at 6:00 p.m. at the District Office (address above). Tuesday, January 31, 2017: Deadline for candidates to submit a completed application packet by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017: Paper screening of application packets for eligibility by the Board begins. Friday, February 3, 2017: Candidates identified for interviews will be notified. Candidates not selected for interviews will be notified. Monday, February 6, 2007: Interview of selected candidates will start at 5 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017: Oath of Office for the new Board Member during the Regular Meeting of the Board. Note: The District will post notices of the appointment and publish it in a newspaper of general circulation within 10 days. Within 30 days of the appointment, registered voters may file a petition for a special election with the County Superintendent of Schools in the manner as specified in Education Code Section 5091(c).
Statement of Candidacy California Education Code Section 35107 states: Any person, regardless of sex, who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the State, a resident of the School District, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the State from holding a civil office, is eligible to be elected or appointed a member of a governing board of a school district. An employee of a school district may not be sworn into office as an elected or appointed member of that school district s governing board unless and until he or she resigns as an employee.
