The pll was cnducted jintly by CBS News, The New Yrk Times and MTV. These respndents were part f natinwide representative samples identified in husehlds previusly interviewed by CBS News Plls and frm RDD samples. Weighting The sample is weighted t ensure that the distributin f interviews mirrrs the distributin f the entire ppulatin f 17 t 29 yearlds acrss a variety f variables. The weighting prcedures are as fllws: 1. Each respndent receives a weight inversely prprtinal t his r her prbability f selectin. Fr respndents in previusly interviewed husehlds, this weight is the husehld weight in the riginal survey, times the number f 17-29 year lds nw in the husehld. Fr the RDD sample, it is the number f 17-29 year lds in the husehld divided by the number f telephne lines. These weights are nrmalized s that the average weight in the RDD sample and in each f the riginal surveys is ne. 2. The weights were then adjusted t match Census Bureau estimates f 17 t 29 year-lds by age, presence f bth 17-24 year lds and 25-29 year lds in the same husehld, educatin, gender, marital status, and census regin.

Margin f Errr The margin f errr fr this survey is plus r minus fur percentage pints fr results based n the entire sample. That means that 95 times ut f a hundred, the results are within fur percentage pints f what they wuld be if the entire universe f 17 t 29 year-lds were interviewed. The errr fr subgrups is larger.
