The Task force meeting on Statistics on the Volume of Road Traffic (vehicle-kilometres) was held at Grand Hotel de L Empereur, Maastricht, The Netherlands under the chairmanship of Mr. Erik Grib (Denmark). Representatives of the following UNECE member States participated: Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia and Sweden. The UNECE secretariat, both DG TREN and Eurostat from the European Commission and the ECMT were also present (see Annex). ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN 2. The Task force meeting elected Mr. Erik Grib (Denmark) as the Chairman of the Meeting. ADOPTION OF AGENDA 3. The Task force meeting adopted the provisional agenda prepared by the secretariat (Informal document 7). INTRODUCTORY REMARKS 4. The host country, the secretariat and the chairman welcomed the participants and recalled the principal conclusions of the Copenhagen meeting (TRANS/WP.6/AC.5/2005/16), as well as the third session of the Task force (Informal document 6).

page 4 PRESENTATION OF DRAFT CHAPTERS 6. Focal points presented their draft chapters. These were discussed at length and depth. The focal points received suggestions for the final revision of chapters. NEXT MEETING 7. The Task-force meeting accepted the offer by the European Centre for Peace and Development (Belgrade) to host the next meeting. The task force agreed about the date and venue of its next meeting: 7 March 2007 in Belgrade CONCLUSIONS 8. The secretariat is requested to email the participants the latest versions of chapters without delay. 9. Focal points were recommended to prepare and send a list of words and notions that need to be defined. This should be sent to Mr. Hans Strelow without delay. 10. Draft chapters will be presented at the Eurostat Coordinating Committee on Transport Statistics (CCST) in Luxembourg on 11-12 December 2006. Final comments by the CCST delegates to the authors of chapters are expected not later than 31 December 2006. 11. Mr Miroslav Jovanovic will send the Preface to the Task force members before 31 December 2006 for comments. The following final timetable and deadlines for action are agreed: 11-12 December 2006: Presentation of Handbook chapters to the CCST in Luxembourg. 31 December 2006: Final comments by the CCST delegates to be sent to chapter leaders. 15 January 2007: Final chapters to be sent by the chapter leaders to the UNECE secretariat. 30 January 2007: Consolidated Handbook to be on the UNECE web site http://www.unece.org/trans/main/wp6/transstatac5handbook.html 15 February 2007: Final comments by the Task force members on the Consolidated Handbook. 17 February 2007: Final Handbook on the UNECE web site 6-8 March 2007: Presentation of the Handbook at the ad hoc workshop at Belgrade 6-8 June 2007: Presentation of the Handbook to WP.6 for adoption 12. As far as specific information about each segment of the project is concerned, the interested parties are encouraged to contact directly the focal points as specified above. Delegates to the Working Party on Transport Statistics (WP.6) interested in the work of this Task force are welcome to join its ongoing work and efforts on the project.
