Charlotte Alumnae Chapter Chapter Meeting September 14, 2013 Ceremonial Opening The September 2013 meeting of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter was called to order at 10:41 a.m. at the Delta Center with a quorum. Adoption of Agenda The agenda was approved as written. Approval of Minutes The June sorority meeting minutes were approved as written. Recognition of National Officers and Committee Members Pamela Murphy Lewis Long Range Planning Stephanie Heritage and Archives Michel Vaughn Investigations Teams Mandy Mullens-Williams Leadership Academy Recognition of Regional Officers and Committee Members Local Elected Officials Karen Eady Williams Ricki McCoy Mitchell Hospitality CAC Hospitality Committee recognized 28 visiting Sorors and those celebrating birthdays for the months of July, August and September. Old Business The Step Team needed a chapter vote at the June meeting for permission to apply and participate in the AKA Step Show, which takes place September 21, 2013. We need to ratify the vote today. Musta Kemp moved that the Charlotte Alumnae Step Team participate in the AKA Step Fest Step show to be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the NC Music Factory. Maya Evans seconded the motion. Vote: In Favor -144 Opposed -0 Motion Carries Retreat Committee Genetta Vinson and Shelia Weaver The Retreat was held August 17 with 162 Sorors registered. Donations were given to a Child s Place during the retreat. In-kind donations were given for the retreat. However, we were short 200 participants needed to achieve our goal. The link for evaluations will be shared via email by Dacia Randolph.

Scholarship committee-pamela Lewis Soror Pamela Murphy Lewis shared information from our previous scholarship recipitant, Janay Graham. Her current GPA is 3.1. Financial Report Finance Team Soror Valerie Jackson gave the following updates and the Financial Secretary s report for the months of May, June and July 2013: Today we are collecting money for the Fall State meeting to be held October 4 and 5 in Greenville, NC. The cost is $60.00. Dues are being accepted today. If you are interested in paying dues visit the finance table. Please remember prices are different based on your membership status. There are retreat items for sale. Journals $8.00, Cups and mirror sets $10.00. Name tags are $10.00. Sorority stickers are available for Sorors to pick up. Forms are available for Centennial T-shirts. The cost is $40.00. Soror Musta Kemp, Chapter Assistant Treasurer reviewed the receipts from the fundraising and the South Atlantic Regional Accounts for the months of May, June and July 2013. Musta Kemp moved that we close the fundraising cash investment account and move the funds to the fundraising checking account. In Favor 142 Oppose 0 Motion Carries Soror Michelle Austin, Chapter Treasurer, reviewed the general operating, May, June and July 2013. Reports going forward will reflect the ending balance for the checkbook as oppose to the bank statement balance. Michelle Austin moved that we restrict $30,210.04 for scholarship from last year s budget. In Favor 145 Oppose 0 Motion Carries Michelle Austin moved that we restrict $1,832.50 for retreat from last year s budget. Funds are to be used to pay for expenses for the FY13-14 retreat. In Favor 138 Oppose 2 Motion Carries Michelle Austin moved that we use $1,500.00 from last year s overage of a budget to cover the remaining expenses of the FY13-14 Retreat. In Favor 141 Oppose 0 Motion Carries

President s Report Updates Soror Desiree Rew National Level The new National Leadership roster was shared as follows: National President -Dr. Paulette C. Walker National 1st Vice President- Beverly E. Smith National 2nd Vice President- Brittani Blackwell National Secretary- Cheryl A. Hickmon National Treasurer- Terri Rivalte Chair, National Finance Committee- Michelle Rhodes Brown Chair, 2015 National Nominating Committee- Joi L. Moore Chair, National Internal Audit Committee- Myrna P. Phillips Member, National Finance Committee- Tanya C. Smith Collegiate Member, National Scholarship and Standards Committee- Yvette Bean Collegiate Member, National Nominating Committee- Khanay Yvette Turner The new Honorary Members are as follows: Paula Williams Madison: Partner in Williams Group Holdings LLC, a Chicago-based, family-owned company, which has significant investments in media (The Africa Channel), a sports franchise (the WNBA s Los Angeles Sparks), various real estate, consumer, financial and trading businesses. Chairman and CEO of the Sparks, she s also a member of the WNBA Board of Governors. Suzan Johnson Cook: Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom at the U.S. Department of State. Susan L. Taylor: Writer and Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Essence Magazine. Lisa P. Jackson: Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Angela Basset: American Actress Dr. Tererai Trent: Scholar, Motivator and Global Humanitarian Our chapter was recognized for our centennial giving at the Delta Sigma Theta level, and we received a plaque for this honor of our $5,000.00 contribution. We were also recognized for our participation in Project 13 organizations across the country. 2013 Leadership Academy Webinars are available on the National website. A copy of the Constitution and Bylaws adopted at the National convention will be mailed to all financial Sorors. National dues have increased to $125.00. Also, there were changes to Rituals and Ceremonies as noted today with the seating at the head table today. The 2015 National convention will be held in Houston, TX and the 2017 National convention will be held in Detroit, MI.

Regional The Fall State meeting will be held October 4th and 5th in Greenville, NC. This meeting is open to everyone. The cost is $60.00 for Alumnae and $55.00 Collegiate and Delta Dears. Local A special thank you was made to the retreat committee and Soror Murphy Lewis and the executive committee for leading the retreat in the absence of the chapter President. Α clarification was shared with the chapter about the report made at the National Convention concerning Charlotte to host the 2017 National Convention but declined the offer. However, we to host a regional conference. Charlotte Alumnae Step Team came in second place in the National convention Step Show. Committee Updates Policies and Procedrues Mandy Mullens Williams The new Policies & Procedures document is uploaded to the secured Member s Only section of the Charlotte Alumnae website. Sorors may download a copy from there. Since the conclusion the 51st National Convention, the P&P committee will review our Policies and Procedures against all documents to ensure we are in alignment and not in conflict with the constitution and bylaws. Pamela Murphy Lewis moved to extend the meeting to continue the transaction of business. Seconded by Mutsa Kemp. Program Planning and Development - Pamela Murphy Lewis The committee announced they will produce a newsletter each month. This month s issue highlight s A Child s Place. Committee chairs and leads were announced. September s focus is on Alzheimer s. Centennial Torch Tour Pamela Hart Hemphill and Antionette Cody The committee co-chairs were recognized for all their efforts to support the Centennial Torch and a scrapbook was given to the chapter president. Social Action Michel Vaughan The Social Action committee will share a monthly newsletter with highlights and reminders. Walk with A Child will be held Saturday, September 24 from 12:00 to 12:30 at Walter G Byers School. If you can t walk on this day, there will be other opportunities. Please pick up a flyer as you leave today. Membership Services Katrina Young The committee will start a new initiative called Fellowship Friday. This will be held the Third Friday of each month at the Delta Center unless the Delta Center is committed. The first event will be held Friday, September 27, 2013. The night will include games and Sorors can exchange paraphernalia, cards, and etc. The second new initiative is Circles of Sisterhood. This will allow for Sorors to come together with like interest. Some of the interest groups are: Winery Finery,

Snap It Up, OPP (Other People Professions), Fancy Pants, OTF (On The Fly), Sizzling Club (Cooking), SOS( Sell or Swap), Natural Hair, We are Family (Sorors with families). The opportunity to sign up will come out in the next bulletin or you may contact membershipservices@charlottedst.rog. Correspondence Correspondence was read by Soror Sondra Hines. Book club will meet at Kokomo s Saturday, September 28 on JCSU campus from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Information was shared about the viewing party for the new Queen Latifah Show Monday at 3:00 p.m. Dilworth Grille. Arts and Letters will host a Red Carpet event Saturday, September 28. It will be dinner and movie. Sorors are encouraged to sign up to participate. This is a national initiative. Announcements Sorors in the chapter 45 to 65 years of age were contacted and invited to attend a meeting on the topic of Long Term Planning. This is one of the partnership meetings with AARP. The first meeting will be held September 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Delta Center. A guest speaker, Terry Coleman, from Truliant will be here to share information to those interested. While the target audience is 45 to 65 anyone interested is welcome to attend this session. Note: Ceremonial candles were extinguished. DOCF Tarina Pettinway The upcoming annual meeting is Friday, September 20, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the Delta Center. A fireball was given to each Soror to signify DOCF is on fire to burn the mortgage. Sorors encouraged to a pledge a contribution to achieve 100% participation. There is separate yahoogroups for DOCF communication to everyone. Mary L.M. Jones announced there is a meet and greet for Thelma Byers Bailey today at Greenville Center at 3:00 p.m. She asked for Sorors to attend. Note: Ceremonial candles re lite.
