She also gave an update on the availability of the budget software. Mr. Snyder presented Title I and IIA preliminary allocations and state assessment results. He also updated the board on the status of end of year reports. Dr. Gaddis reported on the following: USA conference Community Long-Range Strategic Planning meeting Summer projects Live Well Live Atchison workplace wellness BOLD last meetings are this week Dr. Gaddis and Ms. Chapman gave a Keystone update. Topics included FY2019 assessments and teacher vacancies. Mr. Myer gave a transportation update. Topics included the changes he has made at the bus barn, the vehicles sold at Hoffman Auction, and the training he has attended. Meal Prices 2018-2019 (continued) Textbook Fees 2018-2019 Motion by Smith to approve the 2018-2019 meal prices as presented. Seconded by Chapman. Motion passed 6-0. Textbook fees recommendations: Textbook Fees: Pre-school $40.00 Grades K-6 $75.00 Grades 7-12 $100.00 Technology Fees: Grades 1-4 $15.00 Grades 5-6 $20.00 Grades 7-12 $30.00 Activity Participation Fees: Activity Fee Per Student $30.00 Max Activity Fee Per Family $60.00 The activity fee would be assessed to all secondary students with the encouragement for all to participate in extracurricular and/or co-curricular activities. This fee supports the existence of these programs and allows students the continued opportunity to receive the valuable experiences the programs have to offer. Students will receive free admission to home events with this fee. Drivers Ed fees: ACCHS Driver Education $150.00 Out of District Driver Education $225.00 Motion by Smith to approve the textbook, technology, and activity fees as presented. Seconded by Bottorff. Motion passed 5-1 (Chapman). Circle Drive Repairs Bids were presented to repair the potholes in the circle drive at the JSH (mill out the existing asphalt and re-pour). $6,500 Approved Paving LLC $8,999 McConnell and Associates Motion by Chapman to accept the bid from Approved Paving LLC in the amount of $6,500 for repairing the designated areas of the JSH circle drive per the terms of the bid. Seconded by Bottorff. Motion passed 6-0. ipad to Chromebook Final Phase Out During the past school year, the juniors and seniors were the only students with ipads. In order to completely phase out ipads and transition to Chromebooks for grades 1-12, the district needs to purchase 85 Chromebooks. Total cost will be $23,035. REAP grant proceeds will be used to cover the cost. Motion by Smith to approve the proposal for the purchase of 85 Chromebooks as presented. Seconded by Lanter. Motion passed 6-0. Petition to Place Resolution on Ballot A protest petition regarding the 8 mill capital outlay resolution was filed with the County Clerk. The District has 60 days from May 31, 2018 to decide whether or not to call for an election on the question. Estimated cost of a special election is $7,070. Estimated cost of a mail ballot election is $8,380. The board members discussed the issue, but no action was taken. Corey Neill left the meeting at 7:38pm. Safety and Security Grant The Legislature appropriated $5,000,000 for Safety and Security Grants for School Districts this past session. The grant application is due June 22 and requires a dollar for dollar local match grant. Motion by Lanter to authorize the Superintendent to submit the KSDE Safety and Security Grant with the local match portion not to exceed $25,000. Seconded by Smith. Motion passed 5-0. Set Date and Time for July Organizational Meeting FY2018 Budget Closeout and Transfers Motion by Smith to set the time and date for the July 2018 Organizational Meeting for 6:30pm on July 11, 2018. Seconded by Bottorff. Motion passed 5-0. Motion by Bottorff to authorize the Superintendent and Board Clerk to encumber outstanding purchase orders and make necessary transfers to close out the budget for fiscal year 2018 and, if final general and supplemental general state aid is not received until July, to record it as a June 2018 payment. Executive Session Personnel Motion by Lanter at 8:18pm to enter into executive session to discuss nonelected personnel matters pursuant to the non-elected personnel exception under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume in the board room at 8:35pm, and to invite Dr. Gaddis, Mrs. Scherer, Mrs. McMillan, and Mr. Snyder as needed.
