Mr. Peter McNally and Mrs. Lanell Manty, Victoria Business and Education Coalition, presented information regarding Victoria Independent School District Mentoring Programs. There are currently 225 mentors volunteering at the five campuses, but as demonstrated by Mr. McNally and Mrs. Manty, there is still a need for more mentors. Mr. McNally asked the Court and County employees to mentor if possible and provided the Court with documents regarding sign-up information for those that want to mentor. Commissioner Burns asked if mentoring helps with the truancy rate and Mrs. Manty responded yes, it does help, because you mentor the same child throughout the year and the children see it as a responsibility to attend school, especially for the mentoring.
