Kevin Connelly PRP, NAP District 7 Director Kevin R. Connelly, PRP, has been a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians since 2000, and a Professional Registered Parliamentarian in the Seattle area since 2002. He has served various national organizations, including several national professional associations as a convention parliamentarian. At the local level, he has served many nonprofit organizations and condominium/homeowners associations. In addition, Mr. Connelly has acted as a professional presider, and has written parliamentary opinions for several different organizations, both profit and nonprofit. He has also served as convention parliamentarian for a major political party at the state level. Kevin is a member of the 2015-2017 NAP Board of Directors and NAP District 7 Director. His experiences include being a member of the Washington State Association of Parliamentarians (WSAP) where he has served as president, vice president and education committee chairman,, secretary, Youth Committee chairman, and parliamentarian. He has been President, vice president, secretary, treasurer and parliamentarian of WSAP s EastSide Parliamentary Law Unit and Bylaws committee chairman and parliamentarian of Point of Order PLU. His experience also include Secretary of the North Sound Chapter of the American Institute of Parliamentarians (AIP) and Governor of the Northwest Region One of the American Institute of Parliamentarians. He has served as President of the Canterbury Square Owners Association. Best Practices for Effective Meetings Meeting Preparation and Planning. Preparing for a meeting so as to avoid and or solve typical problems that are likely, or not so likely, to occur at a meeting. Learn to use effective phrases during a meeting, handling "problem" members, and delegating responsibilities to members/officers. James Connors PRP James (Jim) Connors is a Professor and Head of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. He began his work in parliamentary procedure when he was a high school agricultural education instructor in 1984. He has taught youth and adults parliamentary procedure skills for over 30 years. From 2001 to 2015 he served as Superintendent of the National FFA Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event in which over 250 FFA members competed each year. He has worked with youth organizations across the country on their parliamentary procedure competitive events. He currently teaches a class on Developing Collegiate and Community Organizations at the University of Idaho. He is a Professional Registered Parliamentarian in NAP and has served as a parliamentarian for numerous local, state, and national organizations.

Youth Competitive Events This workshop will cover parliamentary procedure competitive events offered by youth groups such as the National FFA; Family, Community, and Career Leaders of American (FCCLA); Technology Students Association (TSA), and Business Professionals of America (BPA). Topics discussed will be training teams, planning activities, and judging competitive events. Event rules and components such as written exams, team demonstrations, oral questions, meeting minutes, and team problem solving activities will also be covered. Carrie Dickson PRP, NAP District 8 Director I began my parliamentary journey in 1996 when I needed guidance in running community meetings with controversial issues. Mentored by the founder of the Utah State Association of Parliamentarians, fortune smiled upon me. I joined the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) in 2000 and have been involved ever since, becoming a NAP certified Professional Registered Parliamentarian in 2004. I have been a Parliamentary Procedure Instructor for all levels of parliamentary training, including, Just-Get-Me-Through-This-Meeting ; basic skills for participating in and running meetings; special training for committee members and other special interest groups such as county councils and private and governmental committees; passing the NAP Membership, NAP Registered Parliamentarian and NAP Professional Registered Parliamentarian exams for the National Association of Parliamentarians. I am a resident of Utah where my husband Dana and I have raised two daughters. I retired after 28 years in the law field and enjoy spending my free time with my grandchildren. Using an interactive tool designed by the presenter, participants will master the order and characteristics of motions as well as easy tracking of motions during meetings.

Kirby Glad PRP Kirby Glad MBA, PRP by vocation Kirby Glad is a Chief Information Officer who has managed large teams of over 100 technologists, and a certified PMP. He is a volunteer CERT instructor, and is an active community volunteer for local schools and local politics. But his passion is in helping people make their meetings more effective and enjoyable through the principals collected in Robert s Rules. Kirby has served as a professional parliamentarian for political conventions, clubs, homeowner associations, church assemblies, and school government. He has several years experience in writing opinions and in reviewing and drafting bylaws. He has made numerous seminar presentations, and enjoys working out even the most complex parliamentary conundrums. Another Fine Mess: Unraveling Conflicting Decisions We have a way to reconsider and to amend something previously adopted, but what if we have a passed conflicting motions without realizing it at the time? How are such issues resolved? Olivia Headley RP Olivia Headley RP has been a member of NAP since 1990. She serves several community organizations. She has been an officer with the Assistance League of Southern California, the Ebell of Los Angeles, the Auxiliary of the Hospital of the Good Samaritan, United Way, California Grand Jury Association, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Toastmasters International, California State Association of Parliamentarians, AAUW and is the founder and Charter President of Hollywood American Legion Auxiliary. Olivia, with her husband Tim Mosman, teach the American Legion Extension Institute, the official training for members, officers and applicants of Legion College. She is a Princeton graduate with degrees from UCLA and USC, certificated AMA, and the National Association of Corporate Directors. COP - Communication, Organization and Preparation 1. James Jim Jones PRP James "Jim" Jones, PRP, CPP-T, is the current vice president of the National Association of Parliamentarians and past president of the American Institute of Parliamentarians. A senior partner of BGE Enterprises, Jim is an experienced consultant specializing in strategic planning, performance improvement, and governance. He is a member of the authorship team for the AIP Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure published by McGraw-Hill. Creating Constructive Committees Committees are often described as the workhorses of an organization. When created correctly and with appropriate thought, committees can make a significant contribution to the overall efficiency of an organization. No matter what purpose it is meant to serve, committee work should not be taken lightly either by the appointing leader or the volunteer. Participants will look at various ways to establish well-functioning and productive committees David Mezzera PRP David Mezzera, PRP, is a former District Eight director, past California State Association president, and recent chairman of the NAP Educational Resources Committee. Retired after 32 years of teaching American Government and Public Speaking and coaching debate at the secondary school level, David continues to conduct summer programs at Stanford University on leadership and public service, which includes a component on parliamentary procedure. He has presented workshops at NAP conventions, NTCs, and past District Eight conferences all of which were known for their creative style and audience involvement. So be prepared to participate! Top Ten Tricks to Take To heart. An interactive, verbal sharing of 'Tricks of the Trade" used by effective leaders and proficient parliamentarians to improve the efficiency of meetings through their own skills, capabilities and attitudes. Ten such tips or tools will be shared by the presenter, discussed, and then elaborated upon by the attendees themselves.

Eli Mina PRP Eli Mina, M.Sc, PRP, is a Vancouver based consultant who advises his clients on meeting procedures, group decision making, dealing with disputes and boardroom problems, and minute taking standards. Eli's clients come from local governments, credit unions, non-profit organizations, and others. He is the author of five published books, including 101 Boardroom Problems and How to Solve Them. His website is elimina.com. Did You Ever Get Trumped? No, this is not a presentation about the U.S. election, but about governing documents and which one may trump the other. We'll discuss real life examples that illustrate the complexities and potential traps when trying to provide definitive parliamentary advice to clients. Michael Peck PRP Michael Peck has been a speaker and consultant for Parliamentary training and seminars for over 40 years. He has been a presenter at multiple National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) District 8 and NAP Conventions. He has been a PRP since 1991. He is currently renewed until 2020. He loves teaching and training Parliamentary procedure at the unit level, the state level and the National level as well as in his communities. He is a past state president of Arizona and has been an officer in three different states. He is a multi term past president of the Alpha unit in Arizona. He also has belonged to units in Michigan and Nevada. He was a Parli Pro coach for Metro-Tech High School in Arizona where his first team won first place in the state in FBLA competition. He has served as a Parliamentarian and/or as a Professional Presiding officer for many local, state and National organizations including most recently the Republican Party in Arizona and Oklahoma in 2016. He specializes in parliamentary consulting and training for HOA s and church organizations. He has been a member of NAP since 1978 and a member of AIP since 1975. He also has been a Parliamentarian, presenter or consultant for many local, and state REALTOR Associations as well as the National Association of REALTORS. He is currently a REALTOR/Designated Broker in Arizona. As well as owning his own Parliamentary consulting firm M & M Consulting and Training, LLC. Officers: Enough Already!

Upon completion of the class students will be able to list several offices and titles in RONR, describe functions of officers listed in RONR, understand that directors are officers by RONR definition. decide in writing bylaws how many officers are needed for an organization to be effective, list the required officers to be present for a legal meeting and understand the Ex Officio office. Technology Update What new in the ever changing world of in technology that can be helpful for parliamentarians to know and use. Mary Randolph PRP, NAP President Mary L. Randolph has been a Member-at-Large of the Washington State Association of Parliamentarians (WSAP) and the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) since 1985. She became a Registered Parliamentarian (RP) in 1987 and a Professional Registered Parliamentarian (PRP) designation in 1989. Mary has also been a member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians (AIP) since 1986, a Certified Parliamentarian (CP) in 1994 and a Certified Professional (CPP) in 1996. She earned the CPP-T (Parliamentary Teacher) rating in 1997. Mary has served a variety of positions in NAP and is currently serving as NAP President for the 2015-2017 term. Other activities in the National Association of Parliamentarians include NAP Vice President 2013-2015;Director-at-Large 2009-2011 and 2011-2013;Chairman of the Professional Development Committee 2009-2011; NAP secretary 2005-2007;NAP parliamentarian 2003-2005;NAP Bylaws Revision Committee in 1999-2001; NAP District Seven Director from 1994-1999; and Washington State Association (WSAP) President in the 1994-1995.Mary is owner of Parliamentary Resources, a parliamentary consulting service. Vivian Vincent PRP Vivian Vincent, PRP is owner of AZ (Arizona) Parliamentary Consulting. She is past president of the Arizona State Association of Parliamentarians. She is a member and past president of the Arizona Alpha Unit and former member of the Arizona Professional Unit. She serves as parliamentarian for local, state, national and international organizations, businesses, and individuals. She is a meeting parliamentarian, bylaw consultant, professional presiding officer, and formal opinion writer.
