ATTENDEES: FWCS EXCOM Minutes April 5, 2011 Page 1 of 25 Eighteen (18) IEEE members and one (1) visitors attended the meeting. Please see the attendance sheets that are attached to these minutes. Meeting was called to order at 5:40 PM. Section Chair Serge Beauzille. Called the meeting to order and welcomed attendees. Attendees introduced themselves. Serge reported on FWCS meetings 2011 YTD. See the meetings report attached to these minutes. Serge asked Jim Howard to spend about five minutes at each EXCOM meeting explaining the structure, organization, and operations of the IEEE and the IEEE-USA at each EXCOM meeting to inform EXCOM members. Jim presented the first installment in the series. Secretary The minutes of the January and February were presented in the March meeting, but no vote was taken to accept the minutes. A motion and a second were heard to accept the minutes for the January and February meetings. The motion was passed by voice vote. The minutes of the March 1 meeting have been posted on the FWCS web site for EXCOM member to review. A motion and a second were heard to accept the minutes for the March 1 meeting. Discussion followed. Richard Beatie suggested the Bylaws require that hard copies be distributed and that posting on the web site or even e-mailing the minutes directly to EXCOM members would not satisfy this requirement of the bylaws. A motion was made by Jim Howard to table the motion until the May EXCOM meeting. The motion to table was passed by voice vote. The Secretary, Ralph Painter, agreed to research the pertinent provisions in the Bylaws and report his findings in the May EXCOM. Treasurer Paul Schnitzler was not present. No Treasurer s report was presented in the meeting, but the Chair, Serge Beauzille, received a report April 10 by e-mail from Paul. That report is attached to these minutes. Vice Chair Claude Pitts was not present. Jim Howard presented the membership report, which is attached to these minutes. Business Manager Report. Jim Anderson was not present. Serge Beauzille presented the report that he received from Jim. A copy of Jim s report is attached.

FWCS EXCOM Minutes April 5, 2011 Page 3 of 25 Conference and History - Jim Beall reported. Recent past conferences: 2010 WTS (Wireless Telecommunication Symposium) in Tampa, FL, Embassy Suites, USF Future conferences: 2011 WAMICON (Wireless and Microwave Technology) will be held April 18-19 at the Hilton Hotel, Clearwater Beach, FL. 2014 MTT (Microwave Theory and Techniques) in Tampa, FL Education Report Dr. Rudy Henning was not in attendance. He is at home and available for phone calls. His address is: Rudy Henning 1100 Ponce de Leon Boulevard Clearwater, FL 33756 Phone: 727-735-5460 Old business New business An ad hoc committee was formed in the February 1, 2011 EXCOM meeting and the committee was charged to consider whether to change the mode (hard copies mailed or electronic copies distributed over the Internet) of publishing the Signal, the monthly newsletter of the IEEE- FWCS. The following members volunteered to serve on the committee: Searge Beauzille, Richard Sanchez, Jim Howard, Jim Beall, and Ralph Painter. The Signal committee did not report. No meetings of the ad hoc committee were held. Serge Beauzille and Jim Howard reported that IEEE has found in general that e-mail is ineffective in communicating information to members. Therefore, they recommend no further action on this issue. Next EXCOM meeting The next meeting is scheduled for May 10 at 5:30 PM at TECO plaza. The meeting room is TECO Hall. Adjournment Meeting adjourned at 7:30 PM. Submitted by Ralph D. Painter, Jr. Secretary IEEE-Florida West Coast Section (FWCS)
