GENDER AND GEOGRAPHIC DIVERSITY 61% male 39% female GENDER BALANCE IN THE 130 COUNTRIES WITH UNHCR PRESENCE Countries below the 30% mark are targeted as a matter of priority to improve gender balance. 39% (51 countries) have more than 50% female staff % 21% (27 countries) have less than 30% female staff 40% (52 countries) have between 30 and 50% female staff The majority of UNHCR s international staff come from Europe, followed by Africa, Asia and the Pacific, the Americas, then the Middle East and North Africa. There are more women than men coming from the Americas and Europe. Overall, UNHCR is close to gender parity for international staff but further away for national staff. This situation is partly due to the high number of male drivers, who represent 20% of all national staff in UNHCR. As an organization that works to protect the rights of LGBTI displaced and stateless people, we strive to also foster an environment of respect in which equality for LGBTI colleagues in our workplace is assured. The age distribution in these locations varies between national and international staff, with respectively 51% and 32% below the age of 40.
