What is the ACMRO National Conference The ACMRO National Conference on Pastoral Care in a Multicultural Church and Society is a conference organised by the Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office in conjunction with the Australian Catholic University, Melbourne Campus. The National Conference provides an opportunity for migrant chaplains, pastoral workers from migrant communities, priests and religious from overseas who have come to Australia for pastoral work as well as those involved in the pastoral care for clergy and religious to come together for a time of formation. The Conference will provide an opportunity for these groups to come together, discuss and come away with concrete pastoral models and tools for effective pastoral work in their communities. Keynote Speakers To provide a focus of the conference, the two keynote speakers are, Cardinal Peter Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and Cardinal Orlando Quevedo, Archbishop of Cotabato. These two speakers will provide a global perspective to issues pertaining to the pastoral care of migrants and refugees in a multicultural church and society. There will be time for panel discussions as well as smaller discussions, which will focus the topics of the keynote speakers into relevant topics pertaining to the Church in Australia. Participants It is anticipated that the National Conference will bring together around 250 Catholic and associated participants across the two-day conference. The majority of the participants will be migrant chaplains of the various migrant communities, as well as priests who have come from overseas as well as various pastoral workers working in the field of pastoral care to our migrant communities. Present will be: When Bishops; Priests; Religious men and women; Lay leaders of migrant communities; and Members of New Movements.
