For Internal Use Only Halesite Fire Department - Minutes for Meeting November 1, 2016. Meeting called to order by Chief Colonna at 8:00 p.m. Salute to the Flag. Moment of silence for sick and departed members. Roll call 48 members present. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read. Treasurer s Report accepted as read. Certificates/Awards Chief Colonna announced that James Costanzo is off probation. Fire Calls Doug Anthonsen reported 49 alarms for the month of October with 5 signal 3 s. Rescue Squad Brad Gaito announced and congratulated the newly elected Rescue Squad Officers; Captain - Brad Gaito, 1 st Lieutenant - KC Anna, and 2 nd Lieutenant - Rick Oh. He thanked Hank Waldron for his service and informed the membership that Hank will continue to maintain the inventory closet. Brad Gaito stated the next CPR class will be Nov. 9 at 6:30pm. He strongly encouraged members with expired cards to sign up. Next Rescue Squad Drill is Monday Nov. 28 at 7pm; Protocols and Practice for BLS Meds. Next Rescue Squad Meeting Thursday Nov. 17 at 7pm; sign up for ambulance check in the ready room.

Next standby is Monday Nov. 14 for Yaphank RIT; driver and one EMT are needed. Brad Gaito stated that he attended the Teddy Bear Clinic on Sat. Oct. 15 at Yaphank- train the trainer and found it quite informative he has materials to share with anyone who is interested especially those with young children. He informed the membership that as of Jan. 3 rd 2017, new ER ambulance parking schematics will be in place; members interested in touring the ER should let him know. He stated that there will be an active shooter /MCI drill at Huntington Hospital on Dec. 3 rd at 4am; anyone interested in attending let him know. Brad Gaito stated that he is available after the meeting to demonstrate the new scoop stretcher. Driver Training Craig Lanigan informed membership of a special election regarding permissive referendum for our district, regarding money allotted for apparatuses (new ambulance) on Nov. 22 nd. District Manager Larry Northcote asked the members to be mindful of their keys, keychains, and other sharp objects when sitting on leather or upholster chairs as he has had several sent out for repair. 100 th Yearbook Dan McConnell stated that he continues to make progress and has additional pages for review if anyone is interested. Blood Drive Dan McConnell stated the next event will be held in January; look for work detail to put signs up. Softball Steve Lapp informed membership that next season we will not team up with another department thus players are needed more than ever. He encouraged everyone to sign up so we can have a team and continue to play. If anyone has questions or concerns regarding this turn of events, please reach out to him.

Holiday Decorations Larry Northcote stated help will be needed on Nov. 27 th, mostly indoors just a few outdoor decorations left to display. He also informed the membership that the Annual Boat Parade scheduled for Nov. 25 has been canceled. Membership Chief Colonna stated that a new member to join the Engine Company. Fire Prevention Hugh O Brien thanked Nina Fliesig, Keith Freda, and Larry Northcote for joining him at Flower Hill Elementary School for a Fire Safety Demonstration. He encouraged all members to sign up for these events as they build great community awareness and are fun to partake in. Training Chief Magerle stated that an Engine Chauffer is still needed for Yaphank sign up in the ready room. PIO Kate Kuntz asked members to spread the word and invite family, friends, and neighbors to an anti-drug and alcohol presentation at HFD on Nov. 9 th at 7pm. The presentation is geared toward middle and early high school aged children. Equipment Chief Spada stated that there is a thermal imaging mask on the truck floor it will be here until 11/3 members are encouraged to take a look. CME Brad Gaito announced that the CME class will be on Nov. 10 at 7pm; Pediatrics. Juniors KC Anna stated that the Juniors will be attending the anti-drug and alcohol presentation at the HFD. He also stated that Juniors will have a float and be marching in the Holiday Parade on Saturday Nov. 26 th.

Adult Christmas Party Gerry Conlon confirmed that he will take charge, plan for Saturday Dec. 17. Christmas Parade Hank Waldron stated the Christmas Parade will be Saturday Nov. 26. He suggested having a combined float with the Juniors or just putting the sleigh on a trailer; theme this year is Cartoons. o Chief Colonna admonished the membership and strongly suggested they come up with their own float. Take pride, step up, and have fun. Hank Waldron stated he plans on playing Santa and staging Santa s Ride again this year on Dec.17 th and the hospital visit on Dec. 18 th. He informed the membership that characters are needed especially a new Buddy the Elf! Safety, Annual Dinner, Trustees, Fund Drive, Infectious Disease, Fitness, Commissioner, Softball, Fox, Decorations, SOG, House, Ceremonial, Golf, Historical, Christmas Tree Sales, Children s Christmas Party, Funeral, Good and Welfare - No Report Bills and Communications Bills were accepted as read. Thank you letter from Nancy Dunn. Donation/Requests: o Town of Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone invite to Veteran s Day Wreath Ceremony on Sunday Nov. 6, 2016 at 9:00am at Town Hall Veteran s Plaza. New Business Chief Colonna stated on the average EMS responses are low as well as attendance at drills and meetings. He urged the membership to attend at least 1 of the 3 drills available a month. He stated that those members interested in a Pump Operators Course at Yaphank, must first complete Engine Ops. If there is a good number he will look into it as RIT course is lacking in attendance. He reminded members of Daylight Savings; set clocks back an hour on Sunday 11/6 at 12:00 midnight. He informed the membership that the medic on call is now equipped with an automated CPR Thumper /LUCAS Device; members are still to perform manual compressions. He stated that Engine Co. has kitchen duty next month and that a selfappointed kitchen committee will take over responsibilities thereafter.
