City of Marine City City Commission December 19, 2013 A regular meeting of the Marine City Commission was held on Thursday, December 19, 2013, in the Fire Hall, 200 South Parker Street, Marine City, Michigan, and was called to order by Mayor Charles R. Browne at 7:00 PM. After observing a moment of silence, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Browne. Present: Mayor Browne; Commissioners Avery, Hendrick, Lovett, Meli, Skotarczyk and Turner; City Manager Gabor; Deputy Clerk Baxter; and, City Clerk Kade. Absent: None Communications There were no Communications presented. Public Comment No residents addressed the Commission. Approve Agenda Motion by Commissioner Lovett, seconded by Commissioner Turner, to approve the Agenda, as presented. All Ayes. Motion Carried. Approve Minutes Motion by Commissioner Lovett, seconded by Commissioner Skotarczyk, to approve the Minutes of the Regular City Commission Meeting held December 5, 2013. All Ayes. Motion Carried. 1

Gabler ~ 544 Pearl Street Motion by Mayor Browne, seconded by Commissioner Hendrick, to appoint Linda A. Gabler to the Planning Commission for a term expiring June 30, 2016. All Ayes. Motion Carried. Mayor Browne reported that Rebecca Lepley had withdrawn her application due to current board members being available to fill the openings. Motion by Commissioner Skotarczyk, seconded by Commissioner Turner, to re-appoint Heather Bokram, Scott Tisdale and Judith White to the Historical Commission for terms expiring December 31, 2016. Zoning Board of Appeals The City received an application from the following resident: Kim Weil ~ 157 Brown Street Motion by Mayor Browne, seconded by Commissioner Lovett, to re-appoint Kim Weil to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a term expiring December 31, 2016. Financial Business Disbursements Motion by Commissioner Lovett, seconded by Commissioner Turner, to approve total disbursements, including payroll, in the amount of $490,869.61, as presented. Preliminary Financial Statements Motion by Commissioner Lovett, seconded by Commissioner Turner, to accept the Preliminary Financial Statements for November, 2013, and place on file. All Ayes. City Manager s Report City Manager Gabor provided updates on the following items: All departments on target with budget year The Snug Theatre Apartment Grant to be signed 12-20-13 Four water main breaks within the past week Phone transfer to Comcast delayed until January On vacation December 23 rd January 1 st 3
Commissioner Privilege Commissioner Lovett thanked the homeowners who participated in the Holiday Home Tour. She also thanked DPW for their hard work on keeping the roads clear and asked residents to keep their sidewalks shoveled. Commissioner Lovett wished everyone a blessed Christmas and a Joyous New Year. Commissioner Hendrick reported Paul s Bakery water problem was still ongoing. She also wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Commissioner Meli said it had been a pleasure serving as a Commissioner of Marine City in 2013 and an honor to live in our community. Commissioner Avery said the Holiday Home Tour was a success, and thanked the voters for electing him to serve the city. Commissioner Turner wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. He also conveyed a special wish to Diana Kade for her upcoming retirement and thanked her for all her hard work. Commissioner Skotarczyk shared that he was in the process of reviewing Marine City Area Fire Authority Minutes for the purpose of educating himself, and said he would like to see the minutes updated and more readily available to the public. Mayor Browne presented City Clerk, Diana Kade, with a plaque thanking her for her years of service and dedication to the city. Mayor Browne proclaimed 2013 was an outstanding year for Marine City and reflected on the following accomplishments: State Championship for football team First female football player on a State Championship Team; Sports Illustrated coverage Brendan Kay starting quarterback at Cincinnati Jeff Gutt of the X-Factor High School band awards Snug Theatre opened to rave reviews Bridge replaced and rededicated City Hall s exterior restored Habitat of Humanity home 4
Mayor Browne spoke about Marine City s community spirit and how its residents have come together to support one another. Mayor Browne wished everyone a Merry Christmas and said he hopes 2014 finds Marine City in the limelight once again.
