ESSAY CONTEST RULES 1. ESSAY SUBJECT THEME The essay shall address the theme: The American Dream: Has it become a nightmare or is it still achievable? Essays will be judged on the basis of addressing the stated theme with creativity and the ability to inspire others. 2. ESSAY REQUIREMENTS Each entry shall consist: 1.) Of an original unpublished essay of 250 words in English. All words in the body of the essay including "a" and "I" count towards the word count total. The title does not count toward the word count total. Multiple submissions by an individual are acceptable as long as each essay is original and accompanied by its own entry form and entry fee. Multiple copies of the same essay will not be accepted. 2.) Shall be typed or computer printed using 12 point font, double spaced, New Times Roman and fit on one side of a white 8 ½ by 11 paper with standard margins. 3.) Shall not include any identifying information including but not limited to the entrant's name, address, or other details. 4.) Identifying information should only be provided on the entry form and be submitted with the essay. Each entry will be assigned a unique identification number to maintain the integrity of the contest. 5.) In addition to submitting the entry form, the 250 word essay and the entry fee, the contestant will also submit a signed copy of the essay contest rules. 3. ELIGIBILITY The essay contest may be entered by any legal US citizen who is twenty-one (21) years of age or older. This contest is void where prohibited. The sponsor of this contest, judges and the immediate families of those previously mentioned may not participate as an entrant to the contest.
2. 4. ESSAY SUBMISSION OPTION Essays must be submitted via USPS only to: Arizona Property Essay Contest, P.O. Box 5345, Katy, Texas 77491-5345 including two (2) self-addressed, stamped envelopes for the purpose of confirming receipt of the entry and notification of the name of the contestant winner or a refund in the event that the minimum number of entrants is not met. 5. ENTRY FEE Each entry must be finalized with a payment of a $100 USD entry fee via a cashier's check or a money order made payable to "Arizona Property Essay Contest". Personal checks will NOT be accepted. All entry fees will be held in an escrow account until a winner is announced. 6. ENTRY DEADLINE The contest period is from 04/25/2016 to 08/13/2016. Entries, including the essay, the completed contest entry form along with the signed contest rules plus the entry fee must be received on or before 08/13/2016, 11:59:59 PM CST. Responsibility for lost, late, or misdirected entries rest with the entrant. Any entry received after the above deadline will be returned to the entrant. 7. EXTENSIONS The sponsor reserves the sole right to extend the entry deadline of the essay contest and determination of the winner for a period of up to sixty (60) days. 8. COPYRIGHT AND PUBLICATION Essay contest entry constitutes an assignment to the sponsors of all copyrights arising under both statue and the common law and all other rights derivative there from. By entering the essay contest, entrants grant further permission for the sponsors to publish all or part of the submitted essay and to use the entrant's name and photograph and to publicize the winning entries, all without royalty or other consideration.
3. 9. JUDGES The sponsor will select the top twenty (20) essays. These twenty (20) essays will be judged by a three (3) judge panel of independent judges, not related to the sponsor and will not have any vested interest in the property. The names of the judges shall not be released except to a public authority requesting such information within the scope of its jurisdiction. 10. SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNING ESSAY A contest winner, first runner-up and a second runner-up shall be selected by the judges. The winner will be announced on 08/27/2016. If the winner refuses (within 24 hours of notification) in writing to accept the contest prize, then it shall be awarded to the first runner-up. Likewise, should the first runner-up refuse (within 24 hours of notification) in writing to accept the contest prize, it will be awarded to the second runner up. 11. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPERTY The property is 1.1 acres with a 1996 single-wide mobile home affixed to it. The property is located in Tucson, Arizona, Legal Description: Lot 18 of Rancho Del Norte No. 2, a subdivision of Pima County, Arizona, Book 23, map and plats at page 88. The sponsor will deliver a Special Warranty Deed to the property conveying it to the contest winner accepting the contest prize, free and clear of liens, encumbrances and back taxes through September 30, 2016. The contest winner will be responsible for all real property taxes subsequent to September 30, 2016. The property is serviced with utilities (water, telephone, electricity, gas and septic) and has been evaluated with a value of $56,354.00 US but the sponsor makes no representation of its market value. The contest winner will accept the property "AS IS" and the sponsor will not be responsible for any repairs or maintenance.
4. 12. TRANSFER OF PROPERTY/TAXES/FEES Execution and delivery of the Special Warranty Deed and any other documents required by law shall occur within twenty (20) days following acceptance of the contest prize by the contest winner (the "Closing"). All attorney fees and recording fees shall be the responsibility of the contest winner. 13. STATE, FEDERAL, AND INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS This contest is subject to the provision of all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This offer is void where prohibited. 14. REFUNDS All entry fees shall be returned if a least 560 entries are not received. The sponsor, however, reserve the right to accept fewer than 560 entries. Absolutely no refunds shall be made by reason of non-compliance or for any reason whatsoever, unless the 560 entry level has not been met. Should a refund of fees become necessary, contestants will receive the refund of funds according to the manner the original fees were paid. Entrants will receive a refund of their original $100 USD according to the manner in which it was submitted through the US Postal service. Should an unforeseen circumstance arise that would make fulfilling the obligation of the contest impossible on the part of the sponsor, the sponsor reserves the right to cancel the essay contest at any time prior to the contest deadline and issue a refund of all entry fees. 15. DISQUALIFICATION The sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entrant from the contest if, in sponsor's sole discretion, it reasonably believes that the entrant has, or has attempted to, undermine the legitimate operation of the contest by cheating, deception, plagiarism, or other unfair playing practices or employs any form of intimidation, harassment, or abuse of any other entrants, sponsors, or the judges.
5. Any false information provided within the context of the contest by any entrant concerning identity, legal status, mailing address, telephone number(s), e-mail address, ownership of right or non-compliance with these rules or the like may result in the immediate disqualification on the entrant from the contest, including forfeiture of any and all entrance fees. 16. DISCLAIMER Sponsors failure to enforce any term of these rules will not constitute a waiver of that or any other provision. The sponsor reserves the right to disqualify entrants who violate the rules or interfere with this contest in any manner. If an entrant is disqualified, entrant shall forfeit his/her entry fee and the sponsor reserves the right to terminate that entrant's eligibility to participate any further in the contest.
