Dear Friends: I think we all agree that the planning committee for our new tape has done a terrific job. Lisa Friedman, creator of our routines, has come and given us a few lessons and the feedback has been very positive. It is faster paced than the other two routines, but as we learn it, just do what you can! Lisa will be back August 30th and we will be videotaping that class. Anne Becknell has done a super job of organizing all this, and her sister, who is a video producer, will be coming with two cameras to tape the class. The video will then be placed in the Sun City West library so that members can take it out and review it at home. lf you are coming to class on August 30th, you will need to sign a waiver which allows your 'person' to be shown on the tape. Please note that Lisa will be back again on Saturdays, October 6, 13 and 20 at 2 PM to teach the routine at the Beardsley pool to make sure the Snowbirds get a chance to learn it as well. All members are welcome at these sessions. The September 11th luncheon meeting is going to be held in the Social Hall (East Room, as usual) and as we start fall, where do our thoughts (and our husbands) go???? Football, of course!! We have a very interesting guest speaker, who is also a Sun City West resident! Charley Armey has been both a player and a coach in the NFL and was associated with the Boston Patriots and the St. Louis Rams. He has lots of memorabilia and some great stories to tell. I'm certainly looking forward to an interesting lunch. The signup sheets will be available from August 1 through September 7 at the monitoring stations, and the club picks up a portion of the cost, so your cost will be a whopping $10! Don't forget, you can BYOB. Wear your favorite team colors! Click the line below for a printable, savable, viewable flyer of this event. https://waterfitness.scwclubs.com/files/2018/06/water-fitness-meeting- Sept2018.pdf The holiday Party will be in the evening on December 11th. The entire meal will be catered by Babbo's and it will be a sit-down affair. We will have entertainment, and many of us will be bringing our friends, hubbys and partners. I need to leave some room for additional announcements, so "TaTa" for now. Carol Hammonnd President, Sun City Water Fitness Club 602.339.7788 or CarolHammond@cox.net 1
ELECTION NEWS Two of our members have volunteered to fill the positions of President and Secretary for 2019 and we truly appreciate their willingness to serve. Our present Vice President and Treasurer have offered to remain on the board. The complete slate of nominees will be presented at our September 11th meeting and additional nominations may be made from the floor at that time, with the permission of the nominee. Voting will be done at this meeting. The Nominating Committee: Nancy Barnes, Sharon Griffith and Becky Steinmetz HAVE YOU HEARD THE RUMOR? There are rumors floating around of keeping the R. H. Johnson Pool in our schedule throughout the year. These are not rumors. Members have been asking if this can be done, and your board has looked into it. The rec center management has given their approval for us to be at the R. H. Johnson Pool every day throughout the year as long as we have at least 15 people each day and a monitor. Further discussion will take place at the September 11 meeting. Exercise sessions at the Beardsley and Palm Ridge Pools will continue as usual. We have an updated web site! The rec center has installed new software for Charter Clubs to use for their web sites. Our web site now is more modern and more easily scalable for viewing on smaller devices like phones or tablets. Please check it out. The latest newsletter (in printable form) and exercise calendars are there, as well as instructions for the 3 exercise routines, and much, much more club information. If you are viewing it on a computer of larger device, the menu items are across the top row. If you are viewing it on a smaller device, the menu items are under the menu icon, which looks like three horizontal lines. If you need help using our site or bookmarking our site on your device, see Liz at the September 11 meeting. The link to our web site is at the end of this newsletter. 2
It is monsoon time in Arizona, and that means that we may have a cloud cover many mornings. Just because it is cloudy, the sun's rays can still reach your body. So, please use adequate sun protection even though it's a cloudy day when you go to the R. H. Johnson pool. Below are graphic versions of the August and September exercise calendars. Depending on your viewing device, you may be able to click or manipulate the calendars for larger viewing, or, to print, save, or to view the calendars in full page or full screen mode, click on the following links: August: https://waterfitness.scwclubs.com/files/2018/07/aug2018.pdf September: https://waterfitness.scwclubs.com/files/2018/07/sept2018.pdf If you notice that the exercise CD listed is in error, please send an email to Liz at emitofsky@gmail.com. These calendars have been set up so we do 2 C routines per week at the Johnson Pool while we are learning the new routine. We will re-set the calendars in the fall for 3 CD rotation at all 3 pools. 3
