Monday, January 14, 2019 HLWW HS Media Center The January 14, 2019 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:01 pm. by Board Member Heuer. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Bravinder, Detlefsen, Diers, Heuer, Koch, Peterson and Scheuch. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley. (Item III) Heuer read the oath of office to newly elected School Board members Katie Koch, Jeremy Peterson and John Scheuch. (Item V) Heuer proceeded with the Organizational meeting. (Item V, Subd. A-1) Heuer acted as chairperson to conduct this procedure. Bravinder motioned to nominate Heuer as chairperson; Peterson seconded; Diers motioned to unanimously nominate Heuer as chairperson; Detlefsen seconded; passed (Item V, Subd. I) Scheuch motioned to approve authorizing the agents of the board to lease, purchase and contract for goods and services within the general budget categories; Peterson seconded; passed (Item V, Subd. L) Detlefsen motioned to have the Regular Board meetings be the second Monday, except on legal holiday then the meetings would be on that Tuesday, (held in the HLWW High School Media Center) of each month starting at 6pm; Peterson seconded; passed (Item V, Subd. M) Superintendent Sellner reported we have had work session each month regularly the past 4 years, however prior to that we have had them only when and if they were needed. Sellner indicated if we have them as needed he would have the principals attend the regular meetings. Bravinder motioned to continue to have the Work Session on the fourth Monday, except on legal holiday then the meetings would be on that Tuesday, of each month and starting at 6pm listed on the calendar and to have discussion to determine if they are needed; Detlefsen seconded; passed (Item V, Subd. N) Diers motioned to give secretaries the authority to complete the form based upon sight recognition; Scheuch seconded; passed (Item V, Subd. P) Detlefsen motioned to close the Organizational meeting at 6:37pm; Diers asked if we should consider approving the school board committee assignments earlier due to other committees reorganizing soon. Heuer and Sellner indicated we can look at approving the committee assignments at the January meeting next year. Koch seconded; passed (Item VI) Diers motioned to approve the agenda; Detlefsen seconded; passed (Item VII) There are no questions or comments from visitors. (Item VIII) Diers motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the December 10, 2018 Regular Board Meeting minutes, January bills, student activity account update, December enrollment, the leave request from Sandy Stallmo, High School Secretary from January 2, 2019 thru TBD; resignation of Nathan Brusky as High School Special Education Teacher effective the end of the 2018-19 school year; the employment of Nathan Pidde as a middle/high school custodian replacing open position due to do retirement of Rod Bell, effective January 16, 2019; and Lynn Barney as a paraprofessional at Winsted Elementary, which is a new position approved at the December meeting, effective January 15, 2019; the Spring Coaching Staff; the second reading and approval of the following policies: 721-Uniform Grant Guidance, 801-Equal Access to School Facilities, 901-Community Education, 904-Distribution of Materials on School District Property, 905-Advertising, 906-Community Notification of Predatory Offenders; communications: the Elementary Laker News, Resource Magazine, election timeline and Teaching Today Winter 2019 Volume 1, and the following recognitions: The School Board recognizes David and Pamella Oberfeld for their donations of $500 to the Drama Club, and $250 each to Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. Dailey, and Mrs Thrasher's music departments. Thank you for your generous donations to the school district The School Board recognizes CJ Decker, HLWW varsity Girls Basketball Guard, who was named CMC Player of the Week! In three games CJ had 59 points, 28-32 from the free throw line, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and 9 steals! Way to go CJ, keep up the great work! The School Board recognizes HLWW Gymnast, Maddy Severson, who broke the school record on vault with a score of 8.95 at the HLWW Gymnastics Invitational! Way to go Maddy, keep up the great work! The School Board recognizes Jamie Wiech, Joanie Lasiuk and Charles Bush for their years of service to our schools. Jamie Wiech - 13 years; Joanie Lasiuk - 8 years; Charles Bush - 4 years. Their commitment to our school district, shown by their hours of service and dedication to improving our schools, is much appreciated. Thank you for your time and dedication to the school district and community of HLWW. The School Board recognizes Project Caring which is sponsored by District 2687 Howard Lake- Waverly-Winsted Schools and is organized by FFA students. Preschool through grade 12 students collected food items and cash donations. Local organizations including the Lions Club

Monday, January 14, 2019 Page 4 of Waverly, Howard Lake Lions, Winsted Lions, Winsted Firemen Relief Association, American Legion Post 145 and individuals contributed to Project Caring. The Howard Lake Fire Department collected food and toys; Chick with a Camera-Lacy Detlefsen, took pictures with Santa, and collected food and toy donations. Community volunteers packed and delivered boxes to families in our area on December 14. Donations provided turkeys and food boxes to 39 families totaling 141 children and adults, 351 pounds of food was donated to the Wright County Community Action food shelf. The School Board recognizes Brock Bangasser, HLWW varsity Boys Basketball Center, on being named CMC Player of the Week! In two games last week Brock scored 37 points, 20 rebounds, hit the game winning shot, and was tourney MVP. Keep up the good work Brock! The School Board recognizes Isabelle Roufs on winning the District 17 AAA Award and advancing to the Region 5A AAA in St. Cloud January 30th! Congratulations on this great accomplishment Isabelle! The School Board recognizes Lissa Gatz for the gift of technology and donations to Winsted Elementary. The additional chromebooks have provided better access to more of our students, and your generosity is greatly appreciated! Diers asked for clarification on a few of the bills being approved. Wilson reported some are to do with payroll/employee benefits and some are for special education services for students. Scheuch seconded; passed (Item IX, Subd. A) Donna Wilson, SMS Financial Consultant, reviewed the treasurer s report, and recommended its approval. Diers motioned to approve the treasurer s report; Scheuch seconded; passed (Item IX, Subd. B) Superintendent Sellner indicated we are not looking at any reductions at this time, however this resolution is used if we need to start the process when we are reviewing the budget. Scheuch motioned to adopt the Resolution Directing the Administration to make recommendations for reductions in curriculum, programs and positions; Bravinder seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Scheuch, Peterson, Bravinder, Koch and Heuer; those opposed: none; passed (Item IX, Subd. C) Superintendent Sellner indicated our current vendor, Jon s Lawn Care, reported there would be no increase from the 2018 to the 2019 season estimate. Detlefsen motioned to approve the lawn care and landscape maintenance service renewal for the 2019 season with Jon's Lawn Care; Peterson seconded; passed

Monday, January 14, 2019 Page 5 (Item IX, Subd. D) Superintendent Sellner reported this position is only for the remainder for the school year. Diers motioned to approve a 5.5 hour kindergarten paraprofessional at Winsted Elementary; Koch seconded; passed (Item IX, Subd. E) Superintendent Sellner reported the pay equity report is required to be completed every three years, and the passing rate is 80% or higher. Sellner reported the district is above 80% and recommends approval of the pay equity report. Diers motioned to approve the pay equity report; Scheuch seconded; passed (Item IX, Subd. F) Superintendent Sellner reviewed the Minnesota State High School League resolution and reported Activities Director Scott Berning reviewed and recommended its approval. Diers motioned to approve the MN State High School League Resolution supporting form B application; Scheuch seconded; those in favor: Peterson, Bravinder, Koch, Detlefsen, Diers, Scheuch and Heuer; opposed: none; passed (Item IX, Subd. G) Superintendent Sellner indicated we need two or three board members to be apart of the superintendent performance review committee. Members Detlefsen, Diers and Bravinder indicated they would like to be on the committee. Scheuch motioned to approve Detlefsen, Diers and Bravinder as the superintendent performance committee members; Bravinder seconded; passed (Item IX, Subd. H) Diers motioned to approve the overnight student trip for FFA to compete at the Little I-career development event at South Dakota State University March 28-29, 2019; and the overnight student trip for FFA to compete at the MN State Convention at the University of MN-Twin Cities April 28-29, 2019; Peterson seconded; Bravinder asked about the band and choir trip. Sellner reported that was already approved. passed (Item IX, Subd. I) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading of the following policy: 902-Use of School District Facilities & Equipment. (Item IX, Subd. J) Heuer reported the following items will be on the January Work Session agenda: Discuss Concussion Training/Protocol Discuss Graduation Spring 2021 and Beyond Discuss/Review Adjustments to the 2018-19 Budget Discuss Kindergarten Orientation Schedule Fall 2019 Discuss High School Credits Detlefsen motioned to approve the items for the January Work Session; Koch seconded; passed

Monday, January 14, 2019 Page 6 (Item X, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner reported: Please get your school board committee application to Marilyn or Michelle. There is no school this Friday and next Monday due to the staff work day is Friday because it is the end of the quarter and first semester and Monday is the additional staff development day that was added to the calendar. (Item X, Subd. B) Heuer reported we will have more discussion in the future about the school board committee reports. Heuer indicated there is a form we use to update the other members on what is happening on committees the others do not serve on, such as the Wright Tech Center report submitted by Diers. Diers reported the Wright Tech Center will be having tours for new board members February 5 at 5:30pm and February 7 at 6:30pm with an open house scheduled for March 11 from 4-7pm. Diers reported he and the Superintendent attended the Legislative Forum on January 2. Diers indicated it was good to hear what was going on however there was nothing discussed about the trades.
