Special Olympics Track & Field April 15, 2019 Westside s Special Olympics Track & Field team recently participated in a meet at St. John s School, along with over 15 delegations representing schools and communities from around the greater Houston area. Teachers, Ms. Kudlabanska and Ms. Suleimanji, along with Westside parent, Mr. Sam, coached eight students from our Life Skills and Structured Learning Center classes. The team participated in the 100 Meter Dash and Standing Long Jump. Remember to give your teachers plenty of notice for recommendations. All materials must be in by May 1. PTO membership is required for the Spirit Scholarship. Our Nominating Committee is gearing up to find parents who have a little bit of time, coupled with their talents, to serve on the PTO. We have several positions open on the Executive committee, which meets twice a year in addition to the regularly scheduled PTO meetings. Committee openings include Homecoming, Welcome and Recruiting, First Day Packets, Teacher Appreciation, Fundraising and assisting with College Center and AP events. Volunteer opportunities are available nights and weekends as well as during the school day. Volunteers Needed for Senior Events Galaxy Gala Volunteers are needed for prom and after-prom! Come join the fun at the "Galaxy Gala." Prom will be May 4 from 8 PM-12:30 AM at the Omni Houston Hotel Westside (13210 Katy Fwy) and After-Prom from 1-5:30 AM at Dave & Busters (7620 Katy Fwy). Shifts are available for your convenience. Sign up for one or all night ALL help is appreciated. You may be surprised at how fast time goes by and how much fun after prom is even for parent volunteers. Volunteers doing after-prom set up/ first shift will need to arrive at Dave & Buster's before prom ends. Volunteers doing last shift at prom/take down, who want to also help with after-prom, are welcome-- please note time conflicts. During this crunch time--we need the most volunteers! Page 5 Continued Special Olympics Track & Field from Page 1 NHS Acceptance Letters Due April 18 National Honor Society notification letters were delivered to students last week. Students must return acceptance letters by Thursday, April 18th. The Induction Ceremony will take place in the Auditorium on Thursday, May 2nd, followed by a reception in the Commons.

Page 6 Wolf enews Transition Job Fair Last week, Ms. Stavinoha s Special Ed class attended Texas Workforce Solutions Transition Hiring Event. Our employment representative, Ms. Romo, and transition coach, Ms. Mollet, escorted the students to the event, which was held at Region 4 Educational Support Center. Our students had an opportunity to explore a job fair with local employers and resources. They got hands-on experiences in the Bridge-Year Simulated Career Stations, including job demonstrations in healthcare, plumbing, electrical, and technical roles They also attended break-out panel sessions on Getting the Job and Keeping the Job. Good luck to our Wolves as they prepare for employment opportunities in the Houston community.

Austin Hill, Briac Jones, Calvin Matlock, and Max Mazoch all made All- Star Honorable Mention. Coach Mike Song was voted by his peers as South District DIII Coach of the Year. Mr. Mike Matlock was Person of the Year. Way to go, Wolves!
