ovember 7, 2016 A meeting of the Westfield School Committee was held on Monday, ovember 7, 2016, at 7:00 pm in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 59 Court Street. Members present by roll call were: Mr. Bill Duval, Mr. Jeffrey Gosselin, Mrs. Diane Mayhew, Mrs. Cindy Sullivan, Mr. Kevin J. Sullivan, Mr. Ramon Diaz, and Chairman Brian Sullivan. At 7:01 pm Chairman Sullivan called the meeting to order. 1. Pledge of Allegiance Chairman Sullivan asked if anyone was taping the meeting and if so, please state your name and address: no response 2. Public participation, excluding personnel: Mrs. Amber LeFew, Kittredge Drive Mrs. LeFew spoke in support of the Life Threatening Allergy policy. She stated the policy protects students with known allergies and the possibility of allergy not yet known. Ms. Jennifer Castell, Janelle Drive Ms. Castell supported the Life Threatening Allergy policy. Ms. Emily Marchacos, Bailey Drive Ms. Marchacos supported the Life Threatening Allergy policy. Ms. Carrie Skog, Russellville Road Ms. Skog requested the committee re-visit the policy and allow food at school functions. Mr. ate LeFew, Kittredge Drive Mr. LeFew supported the Life Threatening Allergy policy and suggested that party favors be used at school functions to replace food. Ms. Christina Valenti, Summit Drive Ms. Valenti supported the Life Threatening Allergy policy Ms. Michelle Rizk-Jarvis, Mullen Avenue Ms. Rizk-Jarvis requested that committee re-visit the policy. Mr. Todd Bowdin, Myron Street Mr. Bowdin requested the committee re-visit the policy. 3. Westfield Technical Academy student representatives: Tyler Simpson and Peyton McTavish were in attendance and updated the committee regarding recent and upcoming events.
4. Westfield High School presentation: Mr. Jendrysik and student representatives were in attendance and provided an update on events at Westfield High School. 5. Approval of the October 17, 2016 School Committee meeting minutes: moved, seconded to approve the regular School Committee meeting minutes of October 17, 2016. All were in favor. Motion passes. 6. Approval of home school applications HE84-1617 to HE92-1617: Mrs. Mayhew moved, seconded to approve home school applications HE84-1617 to HE92-1617 for the 2016-2017 school year. All were in favor. 7. Approval of field trips: a. moved, seconded to approve the Franklin Avenue Elementary School trip to the ew England Air Museum located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, on ovember 15, 2016. All were in favor. b. moved, seconded to approve the Westfield High School trip to High Meadows located in orth Granby, Connecticut, on May 31, 2017. All were in favor. c. moved, seconded to approve the Westfield High School trip to the Majestic Theater located in ew ork, ew ork, on April 6, 2017. All were in favor. d. moved, seconded to approve the Westfield Technical Academy trip to Bradley International Airport/103 rd Air Wing located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, on ovember 22, 2016. All were in favor. 8. Approval of MIAA Cooperative Team Agreement WHS/WTA Wrestling: moved, seconded to approve the MIAA Cooperative Team Agreement for Wrestling with WHS and Westfield Technical Academy for the time period of 2 years. All were in favor. 9. Approval of an additional Spring sport at Westfield High School 2017 Unified Track and Field: moved, seconded to table agenda item #9. All were in favor. 10. Approval of Memorandum of Agreement with the Westfield Education Association (Health Service Liaison) moved, seconded to approve the Memorandum of Agreement with the Westfield Education Association for a Health Service Liaison.

Other: Mr. Czaporowski provided an update. 14. Mayor s update: Mayor Sullivan updated the committee. 15. School Committee update: Mr. Freier and Ms. Katherine Bitzas updated the committee regarding the recent donation of stand-up desks and stools to Munger Hill Elementary School. Mrs. Mayhew shared the School Committee self-evaluation forms with members and requested they return them by December 5. Mrs. Cindy Sullivan stated that during Public Participation several parents spoke regarding the Life Threatening Allergy Policy. She stated, for the record, a lot of time was spent on the Life Threatening Allergy Policy. The Human Resources & Policy Subcommittee met in September and October regarding the policy and several professionals were in attendance to provide input.
