C. SBA Report Carolyn Tonn No report. Committee Chair Reports A. Marketing And Outreach Jim Burns 250 of the revised marketing brochures are in the SCORE office. These will be revised periodically as needed. Members should let Jim Burns know when an error is found so the next revision will be correct. A new success story will be put into the brochures as needed. Leland Smithson has joined the marketing committee. The monthly outreach program at SAM S will continue. Jim passed out copies of the initial marketing newsletter, Here s the SCORE. Jim admitted that the format was not optimum and suggested that it was a work in progress. Several members voiced their support for a newsletter, but there were questions regarding the costs and time involved, as well as the proposed schedule for publication. Jean Kruse moved, Kathy McArtor seconded to approve publication and mailing of the newsletter to membership in order to measure reaction. Motion approved unanimously. B. Training and Membership JR Wright Potential Iowa City applicants have not been responding to phone and email contacts. Gary Wenisch and Leland Smithson are close to finishing their training. Mike Humbert is being recommended for membership; his interviews and paperwork have been completed. The committee is investigating using clerical retirees to fill in on desk duty. Dianne Martin, Workshop Committee Chair After discussion, it was determined to cancel the evening roundtable during the summer months due to lack of participation. G. District Director Jean Kruse Jean has the survey results, and she will present them at the next board meeting. SCORE National has decided to close the Spencer chapter and merge it with Cherokee. Old Business Un-counseled clients Pat Gosnell reported that only one mentor responded to her last month, and she input this person s counseling report into Webit for him. New Business A. New Member Applications Jim Burns moved, and Jean Kruse seconded, to approve Mike Humbert for membership in SCORE chapter 0227. Motion approved unanimously. Jim Burns moved, and Kathy McArtor seconded, to approve John Ruth to rejoin the chapter after completing up-to-date required training. Motion approved unanimously. B. Resolution for Platinum Member: Dean Gesme Kathy McArtor moved, and Jim Burns seconded, to approve Dean Gesme s application for Platinum Membership in honor of his many years of service and leadership in Chapter 0227. Motion approved unanimously. Dean will be retiring from active membership in the chapter. C. Recognition for Don Robinson Don Robinson is retiring from membership in the chapter, and recognition for him was discussed. Don has already received all of the formal SCORE awards that are available, so Jim Vancura will recognize his accomplishments and retirement at the next monthly chapter meeting. D. Decline in workshop attendee numbers Jim Vancura discussed the decrease in workshop contacts as compared to 2013. Several reasons for this were examined, and Dianne Martin provided data that showed some special occasions in 2013 that may have artificially raised the 2013 number. No action was taken. Dianne Martin has asked to withdraw as workshop committee chairperson by October, and a replacement will be sought. Jim Vancura would appreciate suggestions from the other committee members. The Executive Committee meeting was adjourned at 11:20am. Page 4 of 6
