The Columbian Exchange was the exchange of plants, animals, and other resources between Europe and the Americas. Some positive changes were the Europeans had new foods to eat and American Indians learned to ride horses as a kind of transportation. There were negative effects, too. American Indians suffered and died from European diseases.

12) Who were Lewis and Clark, and what impact did they have on the United States? Lewis and Clark were sent to explore the land of the Louisiana Purchase. They explored many of the nation s western rivers and learned that there was no river route to the Pacific Ocean. They made contact with American Indians and brought back important information about the land and the people of the west. 13) What role did new inventions play during the Industrial Revolution? New inventions changed farm and factory work during the Industrial Revolution. Industries grew as new machines were invented to replace work that had been done by hand. Also, inventions led to changes in transportation. Railroads and canals helped people and goods travel faster.
