University of Alabama Constitution and By-laws Team One Love ARTICLE I NAME The name of this organization shall be Team One Love. ARTICLE II PURPOSE The purpose of Team One Love is to motivate University of Alabama students to engage their own creativity and connectedness in the movement to end relationship violence. Members of Team One Love work to disseminate the Escalation curriculum distributed by the One Love Foundation to educate students on the issue of relationship violence. Team One Love members are charged with developing awareness campaigns, speaker series, creative projects, and group activities that keep relationship violence at the forefront of discussion. ARTICLE III MEMBERS Section 1. Persons interested in becoming members may join after attending one meeting. No formal application or interview is required. Section 2. Active members shall be enrolled at The University of Alabama. Associate members shall be faculty or staff interested in helping end relationship violence. Section 3. Only active members have the right to hold office and vote. Associate members are not eligible to hold office or to vote. Section 4. There will be no official attendance policy for Team One Love. The Executive Committee reserves the right to install a points system to keep track of members attendance at meetings and events. Section 5. Membership in Team One Love shall be open to all students of The University of Alabama, without regard to race, religion, sex, disability, national origin, color, age, gender identity or expression, sexual identity, or veteran status except in cases of designated fraternal organizations exempt by federal law from Title IX regulations concerning discrimination on the basis of sex.
ARTICLE IV OFFICERS Section 1. The executive officers of Team One Love shall be President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Events Coordinator. Section 2. Officers shall be elected at the first meeting in April each year from the pool of nomination. Active members seeking office may be nominated by other members or by themselves. Section 3. Election shall be by secret ballot, and the candidates receiving more than 50% of the total number of votes cast shall be named to their respective offices. Section 4. Officers shall be elected to serve for one year, beginning at the close of the meeting at which they are elected. Vacancies in offices shall be filled by nomination and voting by a quorum of active members. Section 3. The President shall: 1. Preside over all meetings and determine the date of the meetings. 2. Maintain contact with the One Love Foundation. 3. Uphold and enforce the organization bylaws and constitution. 4. Regularly meet with the advisor. 5. Maintain good standing with The SOURCE. 6. Oversee the bank account along with the Treasurer. 7. Communicate with other campus organizations to encourage cooperation between multiple groups. 8. Complete an annual report on the programs and activities of the organization. Section 4. The Vice President shall: 1. Assume the duties of President in the President s absence. 2. Communicate with media sources to promote Team One Love events. 3. Handle all of the various Team One Love social media accounts. Section 5. The Treasurer shall: 1. Manage funds in the organization s account along with the President. 2. Collect all dues from active members. 3. Keep a current record of all expenditures. 4. Prepare and present monthly reports at the first meeting of each month. Section 6. The Secretary shall: 1. Keep an accurate notebook of the minutes of all meetings and email members after meetings. 2. Take an informal roll at each meeting and keep track of members attendance. Section 7. The Events Coordinator shall:
ARTICLE V MEETINGS 1. Work with the President to plan events, campaigns and workshops on campus to educate students on the issue of relationship violence. 2. Plan monthly events for outreach on campus and among student groups. 3. Secure the reservation of rooms on campus to hold Team One Love meetings and educational workshops. Section 1. The regular meetings of the organization shall be held once a month from September to May unless otherwise ordered by the organization or by the Executive Committee. Section 2. The regular meeting in April shall be known as the annual meeting and shall be for the purpose of electing officers, receiving reports from officers, and for any other business that may arise. Section 3. Special meetings may be called by the President or by the Executive Committee and shall be called upon the written request of 10 members of the association. The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in the notice, and three days notice shall be given except in cases of emergencies. Section 4. Fifty percent of active members shall constitute a quorum. Section 5. A member s right to vote shall be forfeited automatically if that member has not paid the annual dues. ARTICLE VI RELATIONSHIPS Team One Love shall be an independent organization. The One Love Foundation will provide ideas for events, campaigns, and workshops for Team One Love, but Team One Love will be under no obligation to the national office. To distinguished between the two, this organization will be known as The University of Alabama Team One Love. ARTICLE VII FINANCES In the event that the organization, Team One Love, becomes defunct or is terminated, all funds held in the Team One Love bank account held at Regions Bank shall be donated in full to the One Love Foundation and the account officially closed. ARTICLE VII COMMITTEES
Section 1. The Executive Committee shall include the officers of Team One Love. They shall supervise affairs of the association between its business meetings, make recommendations to the association, and perform other duties as specified in these by-laws. Section 2. Other committees, standing or special, shall be appointed by the President as the association or the Executive Committee deem necessary to carry on the work of the association. ARTICLE IX ADVISORS Section 1. Team One Love shall have one advisor, who is a faculty or staff member at The University of Alabama. The advisor shall be selected to Team One Love or have demonstrated support of our purpose. Section 2. The advisor shall help the President maintain good standing with The SOURCE and oversee the organization s compliance with The University of Alabama Student Handbook. Section 3. The advisor will oversee the bank account along with the President and Treasurer. ARTICLE X PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY The rules contained in the current edition of Robert s Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the association in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with these by-laws and special rules or order the association may adopt. ARTICLE XI AMENDMENTS This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting of the association by two-thirds vote, provided the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting. ARTICLE XII BY-LAWS By-laws to this constitution may be added at any regular meeting of the organization by two-thirds vote, provided the by-laws have been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting.
