DBA SOUTHERN BAR AND GRILLE AT 725 LOCUST, CANTON explained that the application being presented is for a Class A liquor license from CSK Ventures Inc. DBA Southern Bar and Grille at 725 Locust, Canton Illinois. The applicant is Theodore Arndt. CANTON POLICE/FIRE PENSION FUND ANNUAL STATEMENT Motion and second were made by Aldermen Jim /Pickel to approve the police/fire pension fund annual statement. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PERMIT FEE WAIVER FOR PROPERTY LOCATED AT 816 GRANT PLACE IN THE AMOUNT OF $62.50 Motion and second were made by Aldermen Jim /West to waive the fee for Habitat for Humanity in the amount of $62.50.
STREETS AND GARBAGE ALDERMAN DAVE PICKEL, CHAIRMAN LAKE, BUILDINGS & GROUNDS ALDERMAN JOHN LOVELL, CHAIRMAN CAMPGROUND PLAYGROUND AND PAVILION Motion and second were made by / Justin to approve the campground pavilion. DISCUSSION: Keith Plavec explained that the low bid for the campground shelter was $9,165.00 from Game Time; however some items are not included in this quote. The installation cost is $5,185.00. An additional price was quoted for the footings which included the installation and the shelter. The total cost would be $16,670.00. The City would still need to obtain bids for the concrete pad and the electrical work needed. Two proposals were received for the playground. The low bid was in the amount of $13,284.28. The installation is an additional $8,500.00. If they sent a person down to work with the City crew on the installation it would reduce the cost to $1,500.00. They would perform an inspection after the work was completed. The total cost for the playground equipment including installation with the help of the City workers would be $14,784.28. If the City would decide to purchase the playground and the shelter the combined cost would be $31,454.28 from Cunningham Recreation. recommended holding off on purchasing the playground at this time. Motion and second were made by Aldermen Lovell/Justin to purchase the shelter and the installation at the cost of $16,670.00.
JAMMIN FOR JUDE SPECIAL EVENT REQUEST FOR SEPTEMBER 7, 2013 Motion and second were made by /Jim to approve the request for the Jammin for Jude special event to be held September 7, 2013. FIRE STATION WALL COLUMN REPAIR IMPROVEMENTS FROM PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTING SERVICES $4,725.00. Motion and second were made by /Pickel to approve the bid for the fire station wall from Professional Contracting Services in the amount of $4,725.00.
MENOLD CONSTRUCTION AND RESTORATION FOR WORK AT 723 SOUTH MAIN. The house at 723 South Main was turned over to the City of Canton from Wells Fargo Bank. Menold Construction provided a quote for restoration in the amount of $1,367.53. Todd Jarnigan looked at the house and provided a quote in the amount of $1,725.57 (Help-Pro) The recommendation was to use the quote from Menold Construction in the amount of $1,367.53. Motion and second were made by Aldermen Justin /Ellis to accept the bid from Menold Construction.
PUBLIC WORKS, WATER & SEWER ALDERMAN GERALD ELLIS, CHAIRMAN OTTO BAUM COMPANY APPLICATION FOR PAYMENT NO. 1 IN THE AMOUNT OF $69,066.00 FOR TRUE VALUE GARDEN CENTER IMPROVEMENTS. Motion and second was made by Aldermen Ellis/Pickel to approve the pay application for Otto Baum Company for $69,066.00. WTP SHINGLE ROOF IMPROVEMENTS FROM HOLTHAUS COMPANIES IN THE AMOUNT OF $23,460.00 Motion and second was made by Aldermen Ellis/Justin to approve the WTP shingle roof improvements from Holthaus Companies in the amount of $23,460.00 from the bond fund.
CANTON WTP SLOPE ROOF REPAIRS FROM HOLTHAUS COMPANIES IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,360.00. Motion and second was made by Aldermen Ellis/Justin to approve the repairs from Holthaus Companies in the amount of $15,360.00 from the bond funds. COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR JEFFREY A FRITZ BRIGHT SPOT AWARD- AMY DEAKIN AT 266 CASS PLACE Mayor Fritz awarded the July bright spot award to Amy Deakin at 266 Cass Place. Amy s vision over the last 14 years has transformed an overgrown property into a garden of many varieties of hostas accompanied by daisies, lilies and begonias.
OATH OF OFFICE- KYLE CHEATHAM City Clerk Diana Pavley-Rock gave the oath of office to firefighter Kyle Cheatham. APPOINTMENT OF POLICE CHIEF Mayor Fritz recommended Kent McDowell to the position of Police Chief with a starting salary of $78,000.00 effective immediately. Motion and second were made by Aldermen Jim /Lovell to approve the appointment of Kent McDowell to the position of Police Chief. APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF Mayor Fritz recommended extending the appointment of Rick Nichols to the position of Deputy Police Chief effective immediately. Motion and second were made by Aldermen West/Justin to approve the appointment of Rick Nichols as Deputy Police Chief.
APPOINTMENT OF FIRE CHIEF Mayor Fritz recommended Tom Shubert to the position of Fire Chief with a starting salary of $78,000.00 effective immediately. Motion and second were made by Aldermen Justin /Ellis approve the appointment of Tom Shubert to the position of Fire Chief.
