The Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce held it's 22nd Annual Legislative Breakfast yesterday in front of a packed house at Ruth Eckerd Hall. The morning was moderated by Peter Schorsch, Editor of Florida Politics and SaintPetersBlog. Legislators in attendance included Senator Jack Latvala, Rep. Larry Ahern, Rep. Ben Diamond, Rep. Chris Latvala, Rep. Wengay Newton, Rep. Kathleen Peters and Rep. Chris Sprowls. Although Speaker of the House, Richard Corcoran was not in attendance his name was front and center in many of the discussions. They each explained their votes on bills that threatened to severely impact Visit Florida and Enterprise Florida. The Chamber was vocal in advocating for the continued funding for both of those agencies and will continue the fight next year. See below for some highlights via SaintPetersBlog and the Tampa Bay Times. In regards to the upcoming Governor's race: "If anybody was expecting state Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, to quit being coy and announce his bid for the 2018 governor's race to the friendly crowd at Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce's annual legislative delegation breakfast Wednesday, they left disappointed. Latvala dodged a question posed to each legislator asking who they predict will be their party's nominee." "I don't think that nominee has been announced candidate yet," said his son, Rep. Chris Latvala. "I think if he were to do it, he certainly would win, and that's my father." (Via Tampa Bay Times) In response to Speaker Corcoran's recent comments that state legislators are more responsive to Floridians than local governments, Senator Latvala stated: "I think it's probably one of the most ridiculous things that has come out of his mouth," Latvala said to laughter and applause from the business-friendly crowd which gathered for French toast and sausage at Ruth Eckerd Hall. "And I've heard a lot of ridiculous things come out of his mouth." Making the American Economy Great Again An In Depth Look at Current Economic & Political Affairs
