Guests present: Margaret Miller, Frank Janiga, Tom Pinkley, Steve Snyder, Mary Alice Moore, Micki Kamrath, Julie Jones, Michelle Hooper, Scott Graves, Brian Gates. Cmdr. Moore called the meeting to order at 1300 hours. Cmdr. Moore discussed the lifetime teaching award for Bob Hunt and possible inscription for the plaque. Cmdr. Moore thanked Bruce, Kevin and Scott for a successful Poker Run. 31 players participated and we will like to do it again. A template for the event is in progress. A big thank you to all who participated In Pelican Fest. It was a nasty day but our tent looked good and worked well. Saturday was a rain out but the event went as good as could possible be considering the weather. Notes and suggestion for what we can do better would be appreciated. The squadron received a $1000 grant from Wal-Mart with no strings attached. Wal-Mart would support a vessel safety inspection in their parking lot. Manager Stony very supportive. 1

Motion to accept September minutes was made by Kevin Kamrath and seconded by Earl Starkman. Motion approved. District 30 meeting comments: o Barbara Zinn mentioned she questioned district #30 svanguard investment and was told the funds were to support start-up squadrons. However, if we submitted a budget with a shortfall funds could be available. Spring District conference will be in Pella, Iowa on April 5 th and 6 th. o Kevin Kamrath mentioned many Boulder USPS members have open water navigation experience. There was a seminar on Emergencies on the Water which discussed problems but not solutions. One of the members also gave a presentation on his sail from Puerto Vallarta to Tahiti. Ken Simpson was receptive to approving money for the boat simulator but the squadron would need to submit a proposal. o The squadrons were urged to consider Jump Start a program for on the water training for new boaters. o The National meeting in Minneapolis sent additional guidelines for name changes. USPS remains the United States Power Squadron operating as America s Boating Club (a promotional marketing tool). No need to change the GLSPS name. Some of the class names will be changing, (i.e. Seamanship to Boat Handling), but the letter designations after successfully completing the class (S) will remain the same. o Roger Zinn, Earl Starkman and Kevin Kamrath will work together to write a grant to procure funds for the simulator and also so we may be able to obtain National s simulator software. o Issues or publication using photos of non-members must obtain permission and a signed release from the individual whose photo will be used. o A plaque was awarded to Steven Dunner for long-time membership Membership concerns: Barbara Zinn is doing well. Dennis Rice is also doing well after knee surgery Cmdr. Moore thanked executive board members and the bridge for their service and urged the board to pass information on to new broard members. The squadron is still in need of a secretary. Rules Committee Report: No report Nominating Committee Report 2019 Slate was read by Pegy Miller. The Christmas parade will be December 8 th and the theme is Christmas on the Lake. Todd Elson will generously donate a tri-toon for the squadron to decorate and has volunteered to pull it in the parade. We will decorate the float at the Miller s and ideas for the theme would be appreciated. Scott has volunteered to check the lights for the float. Ideas for the pegboard design are welcome. A motion to match members donations up to $500 was made by Kevin Kamrath and seconded by Barbara Zinn. Motion approved. Secretary report Arlene Starkman An inventory of the storage shed will be conducted before year end. All committees with inventory, please submit a list before squadron year end, October 31 st. New Business: Zinns introduced their son, Brian Gates, guest at meeting Suggestion was made to set up investment account for excess squadron funds similar to District 30. We need a new sound system. Pat Janiga will se if we can borrow the system used by Newcomers to try at our October dinner meeting. Adjournment: Motion to adjourn was made by Earl Starkman and seconded by Barbara Zinn. Adjourned at 1458 hours. 4
