SUMMARY Public Education Task Force Wednesday, October 26, 2016 9:30 a.m., Tejas Conference Room NCTCOG Offices, CPIII 600 Six Flags Drive, Arlington, TX 76011 North Central Texas Council of Governments 1. Welcome and Introductions. DISCUSSION 2. Texas SmartScape: 2017 Plant Sales. The Public Education Task Force discusses participation in the plant sales next spring. The Plant Sales Planning Subcommittee has had meetings to discuss the direction of the plant sales. They would like to take a more educational approach with Home Depot customers and focus less on the sales. Stephanie updated the group about using the Portal for Home Depot and stated that we will still be using the Portal for communication with store staff. Stephanie has also decided to pass off the planning and communication with Home Depot for the plant sales and NCTCOG has agreed to take over the planning role. 3. FY16 Project Update. NCTCOG staff updates the group on the project s progress. NCTCOG staff continues to develop a new website for Texas SmartScape. In order to help with their efforts a survey has been designed to help capture certain results. The purpose of the survey is to provide feedback on what topics people are visiting the current SmartScape website for. 4. FY17 Project Discussion. The group decides on first steps for the FY17 project. Discuss Extension of Educator s Toolbox. NCTCOG staffed asked the group how often they used the Educator s Toolbox. The feedback that was given was minimal from the group. It was agreed that a new format needed to be created for the current Educator s Toolbox. The two most items used in the current toolbox are the Freddie the Fish and Stormwater to Drinking Water videos. NCTCOG asked the group what they would like the Educator s Toolbox to look like. The group suggested that a matrix be created with a compilation of educational materials used by educators in the task force. Some of these educational materials included: Project Wet Incredible Water Journey (Lorrie Reeves: City of Carrolton) Journey through a Storm Drain (Melissa Walker: City of Arlington) Keep America Beautiful Waste in Place (Arianne Shipley: City of Mansfield) Additional education material that could be used included: AgriLife s Stream Trailer Enviroscape Watershed Model TX Stream Team 616 Six Flags Drive, Centerpoint Two P.O.
