We the people are more than a small handful of the nation s wealthiest families. Free Speech For People is on the right side of history, reminding us of our inalienable rights. DEBRA WINGER ACTRESS AND ACTIVIST CATALYZE ENGAGE INNOVATE+ ADVOCATE Free Speech For People works to renew our democracy and our United States Constitution for we the people, not big money and corporate interests. To further this mission, we advance innovative, effective, and complementary strategies. WE CATALYZE and help lead the movement to amend the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court s rulings in Citizens United v. FEC and Buckley v. Valeo, and the doctrines underlying those rulings. WE ENGAGE in legal advocacy to advance a new jurisprudence on money in politics and to confront the misuse of the U.S. Constitution to claim corporate exemptions from our laws. WE INNOVATE + ADVOCATE for model laws and other tools to challenge big money in politics and to make corporations responsible and accountable to the public.

OUR CALL TO RISE Since our founding on the day of the Citizens United v. FEC ruling in January 2010, Free Speech For People has led the fight challenging this decision as a dangerous threat to our elections and to the basic promise that people, not corporations, shall govern in America. IN CITIZENS UNITED, a narrow 5-4 majority of the Supreme Court overturned longstanding precedent barring corporate expenditures in our elections. The ruling presents a serious and direct threat to our democracy, unleashing a torrent of corporate money In doing so, they have threatened the fundamental promise of American government: of, by, and for the people. in our political process unmatched by any campaign expenditure totals in our history. Further, the ruling exacerbates the inequality of our current campaign finance system in which big money forces are allowed to dominate the political process and effectively drown out the voices of ordinary citizens. In its 1976 ruling in Buckley v. Valeo, the U.S. Supreme Court equated money with speech and struck down congressional campaign spending limits passed in the wake of the Watergate scandal, leading to today s regime of unlimited campaign spending. The Court s ruling in Citizens United made matters exponentially worse and further undermined America s promise of political equality for all. In addition to the danger the Citizens United ruling poses to the integrity of our elections, the ruling also marked the most extreme extension yet of a fabricated corporate rights doctrine that has placed corporations over people. With increasing aggressiveness, corporations have used the newly-minted corporate speech doctrine to strike down federal and state laws concerning clean and fair elections, environmental protection, health care, consumer protection, the rights of workers, and much more. In doing so, they have threatened the fundamental promise of American government: of, by, and for the people. Free Speech For People recognizes that the fight to get big money out of politics and to restore the promise of American self-government is one of the key civil rights struggles of our time. The concept of one person, one vote is rendered meaningless by the misguided notions of corporations being treated as people and money equaling speech. EVA PATERSON PRESIDENT AND CO-FOUNDER, EQUAL JUSTICE SOCIETY

From the moment the U.S. Supreme Court issued its disastrous Citizens United decision enabling corporations and wealthy individuals to buy the politicians of their choice, Free Speech For People has been at the forefront of the movement to reclaim democracy for the people. If you believe corporations are not people and speech is not money, I urge you to support Free Speech For People in its critical work as a catalyst and champion for reversing Citizens United and ridding democracy of its corrupting influence. BILL MOYERS JOURNALIST We re building a transpartisan movement to reclaim our democracy. Free Speech For People works across the political spectrum to end big money dominance in our politics. OUR TRANSPARTISAN WORK INCLUDES: OUR ACROSS THE AISLE REPORT that documents the more than 150 Republican state officials on record calling for a constitutional amendment to reclaim our democracy. A COMPREHENSIVE PUBLIC OPINION STUDY via Peter Hart and Hart Research Associates that shows overwhelming public support across the political spectrum for an amendment. WORKING WITH OUR ALLIES to win the passage of ballot measures in California, Montana, and Washington State calling for a 28th amendment. DEMONSTRATING THAT THE CORRUPTING INFLUENCE OF MONEY IMPACTS BOTH PARTIES and insisting that any constitutional amendment to overhaul this system treat incorporated unions and for-profit corporations on an equal basis.

OUR PLAN FOR VICTORY OUR PLAN FOR VICTORY LEGAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM Our Legal Advocacy Program serves as a critical legal resource for the growing movement to reclaim our democracy. This program engages in legal advocacy, public education, and grassroots organizing to challenge the U.S. Supreme Court s rulings in Citizens United v. FEC, McCutcheon v. FEC, and Buckley v. Valeo, as well as the legal doctrines underlying those rulings. THE LEGAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM ADVANCES OUR MISSION IN FOUR KEY WAYS: 1 2 3 4 PUSHING BACK IN THE COURTS to challenge the doctrine of unlimited campaign spending and the fabrication of corporate constitutional rights, and to advance the promise of political equality for all. BUILDING SUPPORT IN THE LEGAL COMMUNITY for a new jurisprudence on money in politics and American selfgovernment through academic scholarship to advance original legal arguments. DEVELOPING MODEL LEGISLATION on corporate governance and charter reform to provide innovative and thoughtful solutions to particular issues of campaign finance and corporate power. SERVING AS A KEY LEGAL RESOURCE for the growing constitutional amendment movement to defend the rights of voters and ensure a government of, by, and for the people.

THE GROWING POWER OF THE AMENDMENT MOVEMENT 18 725 STATES CITIES+ TOWNS ON RECORD CALLING FOR A 28TH AMENDMENT TO RECLAIM OUR DEMOCRACY STATES IN FAVOR ADDITIONAL LOCAL SUPPORT OUR PLAN FOR VICTORY THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT MOVEMENT The Constitutional Amendment Movement, which we helped to launch on the day of the Citizens United ruling in January 2010, has gained powerful momentum. Eighteen states and more than 725 cities and towns across the country are now on record calling for a 28th Amendment to reclaim our democracy. Further, the President of the United States and more than 200 Members of Congress have joined this call. In September 2014, in a major milestone for this movement, 54 members of the United States Senate voted to support the Democracy For All Amendment, which would overturn Citizens United and Buckley and allow for overall campaign spending limits in our elections. I commend Free Speech For People s commitment to building support across the entire political spectrum for a non-partisan movement to reclaim American democracy and to encourage responsible citizenship. ALAN K. SIMPSON U.S. SENATOR, WYOMING (RETIRED)
