Page 2 II. Presentations A. LSIC Moorefield Intermediate School and Moorefield Middle School Danyl Freeman presented the annual LSIC report for MIS. Mrs. Freeman reported on the excellent OEPA follow-up report, professional development activities, use of data walls to track student achievement, evaluation of Five-Year Strategic Plan goals, use of varied instructional strategies to include technology, use of School Improvement Grant and Title I Dance Grant. Benchmark data was also discussed with the Board indicating areas of growth and performance levels. Mr. Rodney Woods, Leadership Mentor at MIS, reported on the school culture. Mr. Wood reported the answer to the issues at MIS lie within the staff as they continue to work together. The school culture reflects a sincere willingness to collaborate and work together. He also reported increased communication with parents and community. The MMS LSIC presented their annual report to the Board. Katie McCausley, MMS student, explained her first place Junior Regional Science project. Katie McCausley and Shannon Shockey, MMS students, explained their FCCLA projects. Christina Stickley, MMS teacher, presented to the Board a 21 st Century Technology presentation emphasizing the goals of their Five-Year Strategic Plan, smart goal evaluation, professional development activities, and parent involvement activities. Benchmark data was also discussed with the Board and the plan to move students forward. The LSIC recognized the football team as PVL Champions, Math Field Day winners, Math Count Participant winners, WV History Bowl and Junior Regional Science Fair winners. Page 3 IV. Unfinished Business A. EHHS/MHS Building Projects Barbara Whitecotton and Margaret Shriver presented a formal presentation to the SBA on March 19, 2012. Mrs. Shriver gave a report on the presentation. Questions were addressed on the need for funds for Hardy County Schools. Funds will be awarded on April 24, 2012. Kathy Hardy reported on the activities of the Publicity Committee for the bond. Brochures and posters are ready. Meetings are scheduled and being held. Radio spots are ready to be aired. B. Hardy County Extension Agreement On the motion of Loy Kesner, seconded by Dixie Bean, the Board approved $7,500.00 to be given to the Hardy County Extension Service. V. New Business A. Proposed Levy Rates Veeta Burgess presented the proposed levy rates of $4,368,438.00. On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved the proposed levy rates as presented. B. Ascertain Fiscal Condition Veeta Burgess ascertained the fiscal condition of Hardy County Schools at $300,000.00 surplus at the end of the fiscal year. C. Hardy County 4-H Camp Request On the motion of Rodney Barr, seconded by Loy Kesner, the Board approved a donation to the Hardy County 4-H Camp in the amount of $1,500.00 for the use of Camp Pinnacle facilities for our schools. D. Hardy County Schools Student and Staff Wellness Policy on Physical Activity and Nutrition JFE On the motion of Loy Kesner, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved Hardy County Schools Student and Staff Wellness Policy on Physical Activity and Nutrition JFE to go out for first reading with corrections.

New Concerns Barbara Whitecotton reported on the pesticides sprayed at South Branch Career and Technical Center last week. The building had to be evacuated. Students and staff have been out of school since March 14, 2012 and will return Wednesday March 21, 2012. The Director at the South Branch Career and Technical Center has been suspended at this time with pay pending a hearing. Barbara Whitecotton commended Brent Nelson for his work to get students back in school. Ms. Whitecotton requested for the Board to send Mr. Nelson a letter of appreciation. VIII. Loy Kesner commended the MES staff and Mr. Armentrout on their excellent OEPA results. Mr. Kesner congratulated the MES students on their art show participation. Rodney Barr thanked the community for their support of the Ham, Bacon and Egg Show. Also, Mr. Barr commended Tanner Carr for his win at Math Field Day. Mr. Barr thanked McNeill Rangers Camp 582 for their donation of the portrait of George Washington s picture to MMS.
