Call to Order President Hardy County Schools Regular Board Meeting Hardy County Board of Education Office May 7, 2012 A., called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. B. Loy Kesner opened the meeting with prayer. C. Nancy Hahn led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. D. Introductions were made around the room. E. Approval of Agenda A motion was made by Nancy Hahn, seconded by Loy Kesner, to approve the agenda. Barbara Whitecotton, Superintendent, requested to amend the agenda to include an additional Transportation Request under Consent Items and to add an additional Request for Days Without Pay under Personnel. On the motion of Loy Kesner, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved to amend the agenda to add a Transportation Request under Consent Items and to add an additional Request for Days Without Pay under Personnel.

Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Program Danny Dewhurst, FFA and Youth Danny Dewhurst, Michael Thomas, Hannah Gilbert and Michelle Simmons provided the Board with information on the Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Program that will be presented to the students at MHS on June 4, 2012. The speaker is nationally recognized David Roever. Mr. Roever is very knowledgeable in the abuse of drugs. III. Consent Items A. Board Minutes April 16, 2012 B. Check Register C. Invoices to be Approved D. Transportation Requests to be Approved On the motion of Rodney Barr, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved the consent items. IV. Unfinished Business A. EHHS/MHS Building Projects The School Bond Proposal will be voted on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in the Primary Election. B. Early Admission to Kindergarten Policy JBB On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved for Early Admission to Kindergarten Policy JBB to go out for second reading. C. Hardy County Schools Student and Staff Wellness Policy on Physical Activity and Nutrition JFE On the motion of Loy Kesner, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved Hardy County Schools Student and Staff Wellness Policy on Physical Activity and Nutrition JFE.

Policy 2460 Educational Purpose and Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources, Technologies and the Internet Barbara Whitecotton, Superintendent, presented to the Board West Virginia Policy 2460 and the existing Hardy County Schools policy. Ms. Whitecotton also presented a draft for a new Hardy County policy which mimics West Virginia state code. The Board will review the policy before going out for first reading. B. Approval of Funds for Jump-Start Programs Jeremy Cheshire and Kathy Hardy presented to the Board information on the Summer Jump- Start Program. Mr. Cheshire requested financial support for this program. On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Dixie Bean, the Board approved funding for the Jump-Start Programs at MHS and EHHS. C. Bids for Financial Services Barbara Whitecotton, Superintendent, suggested to the Board to consider putting out bids for financial services since it has been about six years. Margaret Shriver excused herself from the discussion due to her involvement in financial services. On the motion of Loy Kesner, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved to put out bids for financial services. 4-0 motion carried 1 abstain Discussion continued on the cost to the school system and benefits for changing such as interest rates on checking accounts. On the motion of Rodney Barr, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved to rescind Loy Kesner s previous motion and table the bids for financial services until after July 1, 2012. 4-0 motion carried 1 abstain D. Approval of Experiential Learning Sites On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved the Experiential Learning Sites as presented. E. Nancy Hahn thanked Danny Dewhurst for his work in bringing the MHS and EHHS students together in support of positive activities for students. Rodney Barr thanked all the individuals in the community who made time in their busy schedules to work on the school bond. Kathy Hardy commended Nancy Sisk, Sherry Barb, the Cafeteria Managers and Cooks at MIS, MMS, and MHS for the results of their recent audit of the Nutrition Program. Barbara Whitecotton commended those involved in the work of the bond. Margaret Shriver commended those involved in the work of the bond.
