Minutes of the Annual Convention of the 9th Episcopal District Women s Missionary Society Bishop Harry L. Seawright, Presiding Prelate Reverend Sherita Moon Seawright, Episcopal WMS Supervisor Mrs. Susie Bonner, Episcopal WMS President Alabama A&M University Huntsville, Alabama December 3, 2016 Convention Theme: Bridging the Gap: Community, Literacy, and Healthcare Disparities. Registration/Continental Breakfast began at 7:00 a.m. and was conducted by the Registration Committee: Adrienne Rowland, Brenda Clayton, Tamara Royster, and Thomasine Jackson. The Annual Convention opened at 8:00 a.m. with the Tanner-Turner Memorial. The opening song was Lord I Want to be a Christian. The prayer was given by Mrs. Bettye West and the scripture was given by Ms. Denise Smith- Psalms:121. During the memorial each Conference was asked to display the flashlights from their cell phones to remember all of the Missionary sisters who were called home during the year. The closing song was I Love the Lord. The business session was called to order by President Susie Bonner at 8:15 a.m. President Bonner entertained a motion to accept the agenda as written and to accept all reports as information. It was moved and properly seconded to accept the agenda as written and to accept all reports as information. Motion carried. The agenda was approved as printed. See the 9th District Episcopal District WMS Annual Convention Booklet for agenda and reports. President Bonner thanked Ann Sharpe for Friday Night s Program and play Flight 309. Devotion was led by Dorothy Davis- Worship Leader. Opening song Joy to the World. The prayer was given by the Worship Leader. Greetings were given by Mrs. Mary Powers local WMS President, Rev. Joretha Wright in the absence of her husband Rev. Maurice Wright, Mrs. Patricia Smith- Host NW Conference President, Mrs. Djuana Duncomb- Wilson, Episcopal YPD Director, Mrs. Susie Bonner Episcopal President, and Rev. Sherita M. Seawright, Episcopal Supervisor. Bishop Seawright brought greetings via- cell phone since he was unable to attend the convention. Supervisor Seawright requested a word of prayer from Dorothy Davis- Worship Leader for Bishop Seawright s full recovery.

The minutes of the 2015 Annual Convention were summarized by Marge Simmons- immediate past Recording Secretary. President Bonner entertained a motion to accept the minutes as printed. The motion to accept the minutes as printed was offered by Yvonne Saxon and seconded by Dianne Battle. Motion carried. The roll call was done by Andrea Martin-Recording Secretary. President Bonner asked that the Nomination Committee give their report. The Nominating Committee submitted the following report: Adrienne Rowland- 1st Vice President Margrete Marge Simmons- 2nd Vice President Tamara Giles- 3rd Vice President Andrea Martin- Recording Secretary Brenda Clayton- Treasurer Rosemary Range- PME Director Charlie Lassiter- Historiographer/Statistician Dorothy Davis- Worship Leader Dr. Monica Dillihunt- Parliamentarian Terrie J. Lee- Member-at-Large Nominations were made from the floor for the positions of Assistant Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary since there were no nominees for these positions. Bridgett Bolar was nominated for the position of Corresponding Secretary. Rose Edwards and Jewel Harris were nominated for the position of Assistant Recording Secretary. Bridgett Bolar was elected to the position of Corresponding Secretary due to the position being unopposed. President Bonner entertained a motion to allow the Recording Secretary Andrea Martin, to cast a unanimous ballot for the unopposed Episcopal Officer positions. The motion to allow the Recording Secretary to cast a unanimous ballot for the unopposed Episcopal officer positions was offered by Hattie Nathan and seconded by Alice Cornett. Motion carried. An election was held to elect an Assistant Recording Secretary. The two nominees were Jewel Harris and Rose Edwards. President Bonner asked the Conference Presidents to check their Conference for validations of each individual present. President Bonner stated for clarification purposes: Supervisor Seawright read Article III of the Constitution and Bylaws Voting Membership :

The voting membership of the Episcopal District shall consist of the past and present Episcopal Supervisors, the Episcopal President, the Episcopal Director of the Young People s and Children s Division, the elected Episcopal officers, the Conference Presidents, the Conference Directors of YPD, Life Members, any Connectional officers residing in the Episcopal District and at least 3 delegates from each Conference as determined by the Conference. President Bonner entertained a motion to allow each Conference President to select three delegates from their Conference to vote in the election. Djuana Duncombe-Wilson offered the motion to allow each Conference President to elect delegates from their Conference and it was seconded by Rosemary Range. Motion carried. Mary Alice Walker- Teller Jacqueline B. Davis- Clerk A total of 53 votes was cast for the position of Assistant Recording Secretary. However, one vote was disqualified due to voting for someone who was not on the ballot. Jewel Harris had a total of 31 votes and Rose Edwards had a total of 21 votes. Jewel Harris was elected to the position of Assistant Recording Secretary. The newly elected Episcopal Officers for 2016-2017: Adrienne Rowland; Margrete Simmons; Tamara Giles; Andrea Martin; Jewel Harris; Bridget Bolar; Brenda Clayton; Rosemary Range; Charlie Lassiter; Monica Dillihunt and Terrie J. Lee. Treasurer s Report was listed in the booklet. Registration Report: The registration report was given by Mrs. Adrienne Rowland: ARR- 25 NE-25 NW- 99 SE- 25 SW- 16 Total Registered- 192 The YPD Report was printed in the booklet. Mrs. Djuana Duncombe- Wilson reported that the YPD donated over $4,000.00 to the Sickle Cell Project. The YPD was recognized as one of the top sponsors for the Birmingham Sickle Cell Project. Upcoming events: District LTI- 2/11/2017 Connectional LTI- March 31-April 2, 2017 St. Louis Missouri Report on Christian Social Action The Commission on Christian Social Action report was given by Mrs. Adrienne Rowland. - Report was printed in the booklet -Campaign to end Fistula -Maama Kits -Domestic Violence Shelter Compassionate Care Project -Angel Tree - $ 800.00 raised for the 8th Episcopal District -Health Initiative -WMS Foundation

-Adoption of Valiant Cross Academy Commission on Mission Education and Interpretation: The Commission on Mission Education and Interpretation report was given by Mrs. Margrete Marge Simmons. - Reports were printed in the booklets - 5 Handy Simmons Scholarships in the amount of $350.00 each were awarded to 9th District college students. - Spirit of Luke Foundation Commission on Membership and Recruitment: The Commission on Membership and Recruitment report was given by Ms. Tamara Giles. -Report was printed in the booklet. -Each Conference was asked to support the YAMS with attending all WMS meetings. PME Report Sister Rosemary Range reported that 490 yearbooks were sold throughout the district. Rosetta Brock had five new PME directors within the Alabama River Region. Debra Lucas Roberson became the new PME director for the Southwest Conference. President Bonner thanked everyone for their reports and accomplishments throughout the year and looked forward to expanding the ministry of Jesus within the community and the world. President Bonner also thanked the Bishop in his absence for choosing her for the position of Episcopal President. The Business Session ended at 12:00 noon.
