Naples, FL - Regular Board Meeting STATEMENT OF MEETING GUIDELINES: All electronic devices, such as pagers, cell phones, and any other wireless communication device, must be turned off while in the Board Room, as they may interfere with the television broadcast. Members of the public wishing to speak on any agenda item must complete a Speaker Registration Card for the Board Secretary. No speaker shall indulge in personal attacks while speaking. All comments and questions are to be addressed directly to the District School Board. Members of the public who wish to address the Board regarding items not on the agenda may do so during Public Comments. Speakers will be limited to three minutes unless granted additional time by the Chair. A yellow caution light will appear on the timer when one minute remains, and a red light will appear when the time expires. The Chair, with the consent of the Board, shall have the right to limit public debate on any agenda item. The Board Parliamentarian shall enforce the Meeting Guidelines. Call to Order 1. Cadet Carla Viera of Naples High School led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. A brass ensemble from Gulf Coast High School performed "Fanfare", and students from Estates Elementary School and Pelican Marsh Elementary performed "To Those Who Serve." Public Comments Minutes: There were no public comments. School Board Comments 49. School Board Comments Minutes: Mr. Terry congratulated the groups from the schools for their musical performances and the artwork display. He attended the Honors Orchestra and Honors Band Concerts recently, which were performed to a full house, and commended the great students here in Collier County. He attended Signing Day in Immokalee. Over 30 athletes from Collier County signed for athletic scholarship. Mrs. Curatolo attended the annual Empty Bowls activity at Cambier Park 2 weeks ago. She stated that there were thousands of people in line. She congratulated students and staff for another successful Empty Bowls. She also added that Dr. Patton served soup on that day. Mrs. Carroll stated how proud she is of Lely High School, whose Biology students and TV Page 13 of 16

Production students are working directly with the producers of Discovery Education and with scientists at Rookery Bay. They are producing a documentary along with Discover Ed. She mentioned that LHS is the only high school in the nation to do this. Ms. Sprague stated that she is looking forward to all of the annual spring celebrations which will be coming up in the near future. Mrs. Berry was unable to attend the Honors Orchestra Concert, however she did attend the Honors Band Concert, and stated how outstanding the performance was. She also attended the recent Science Fair at North Collier Regional Park Report of the District General Counsel 50. Report of the District General Counsel Minutes: There was no report of the District General Counsel. Superintendent Comments 51. Academic Moment Minutes: Dr. Patton announced that this past Saturday, February 9, the Saturdays for Success Academy was attended by 3,066 students. What began last year with only 3 Title I high schools participating, has now increased to 22 schools, 7 sessions for Secondary and 6 sessions for Elementary. 52. Superintendent Comments Minutes: Dr. Patton discussed the new entrepreneurial courses which will be offered next school year at the high schools. Teachers have been selected to teach this course, and the schools are being asked to hold this class during 7th period, so that if a special presenter is brought in, that person may speak to all of the classes at the same time. The district is working closely with Junior Achievement and also with the Chamber of Commerce. She thanked Beth Thompson, Luis Solano, and Christy Kutz for efforts and time in accomplishing this. Dr. Patton attended the annual Empty Bowls event a couple of weeks ago, and stated that not only do the kids make the beautiful bowls, various kitchen staff washed the bowls before the event. Dr. Patton acknowledged Signing Day for local athletes, particularly Mackensie Alexander of Immokalee, who was #4 athlete in the nation, and his signing was shown live on ESPN. Dr. Patton congratulated the Honors Orchestra and Honors Band for their great concerts, and stated that a guest conductor had been working with them. He moved from Chicago where he was a well-known conductor who had worked with the Chicago schools, and now is retired in Naples. He stated that he has never seen such comaraderie among schools, and no band director ever tries to out-perform another school. Dr. Patton mentioned she enjoyed Everglades Seafood Festival, which was last weekend. Dr. Patton attended the Florida Education Technology Conference, where there were several presenters, including the iconnect platform. Dr. Patton highlighted the "Bring your own Devices" which the district is looking into for next year. She discussed visiting Forsyth, Georgia, on March 6,7, and 8, where they have already implemented the "Bring your own Devices" for the last couple of years. Finally, Dr. Patton recognized Beth Thompson who is retiring. This is her last board meeting. Dr. Patton thanked her for her years of dedication. Adjournment 53.
