Election Time Is Here! It s Time to Volunteer! All it takes is dedication and time and you can help lead this club. Nominations will be held at the next couple of meetings - February 18th and March 18 th, 2019. Voting would be on April 15 th. If an office is not contested, you are a shoe in! Please raise your hand and help us to continue our decades of success. The offices open for election are president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and 3 board positions. Duneland Ski Club has been providing ski activities, ski trips and social get-togethers for many years and we hope our club continues to thrive through many more decades to come. It s through the hard work of each board member, committee, club volunteer and its members. Being a leader in this club is a very rewarding endeavor and provides countless opportunities to meet new people see new places and make new friends. We hope you are willing to throw your name in the hat and will come forward to take on the challenge to help lead our club. Following is the brief description of each office: Each of these offices should be held by a Duneland Ski Club veteran (not new) member. The president is the chief executive officer of the club and oversees all its operations. The vice president performs the administrative duties of the club and performs the duties of the president in the president s absence. The treasurer is the custodian of the club assets and maintains complete and accurate records of all receipts and disbursements. The secretary prepares and maintains the minutes of the meetings of the board of directors and General meetings. Please plan to attend the next meetings at the Gary Sportsman s club and raise your hand to help lead our club or nominate a friend whom you know is worthy and qualified to be a leader. Election Guidelines The election committee will open nominations at the February 18th general meeting of the club and continue the process through March 18th Meetings. At the conclusion of the regular business portion of each of the aforementioned meetings, the election committee takes charge of the meeting and requests nominations from the floor. A member of the election committee shall:...read the brief summary of the functions of each office of the board of directors....request nominations for each office in sequence beginning with secretary and ending with president....request a second of each nomination and record the name of the nominee, the nominator, and the second in the Nomination Log....Check the membership roster to verify that each of these people is a member of the club. If verification is obtained and the nominee is present, ask the nominee if he or she accepts the nomination. If any person is not a member, announce this, report that the nomination does not stand, and request any additional nominations. If the nominee is not present, state that a member of the election committee will contact the nominee and report the acceptance or refusal at the next meeting....provide each nominee with a copy of the Campaign Guidelines and the Details of Director Duties. Invite each nominee to provide a campaign article. Campaign Guidelines:...At the conclusion of nominations invite each nominee to make a campaign speech of up to two minutes. A Paper Absentee Ballot Form with its instructions is available from the election committee. After the speeches, the election committee will describe the timing and essentials of the balloting process. However, should there be only one nominee for an office, the election committee will announce such and introduce the new board member by position for the election result publication. Should there be less than one nominee for any office, the election committee will announce such, and describe the procedure prescribed by the club constitution to fill an empty board seat. Again, if there is more than one candidate nominated for any office the normal election process will take place per the club Guidelines.
Page 2 DSC President Letter February 2019 Gone skiing!! I have little to say for the February Inside Edge, as I am packing for the trip to Taos, New Mexico. Last I heard, there is plenty of snow there, so it should be a great trip. If you weren t at our January meeting, you missed a good time. We met at Buddy & Pal s in Crown Point and it was a nice room and a fun crowd. Among other things we filled out surveys for where we want to ski next winter. If you haven t filled one out, please use the one in this issue of the Inside Edge and bring it to the next meeting. Also, note that nominations for next year s officers start at the next meeting, February 18. Think about who you want to run the club for next year. We will need a president, VP, secretary, treasurer and three board members. Maybe it s time for you to step up and help make this club great for everyone. For those of you parking at the Indiana Dunes Visitor s Center in Chesterton for the Crystal Mountain Trip, please make sure you have filled out at Waiver of Responsibility/Parking Agreement before the trip. Mail or email to Glenn or me, prior to the day we leave. We will give you parking passes to put on your dashboard just before we board the bus. I hope to see many of you on the Crystal Mountain bus trip February 8-10. It should be fun.
