AUGUST SPEAKER by Debbie Ackerman, VP President Program 2 As summer draws to a close and before the campaign season begins in earnest, join us for a presentation by Julie Gunlock who challenges the credibility of commonplace information reported in the media, especially concerning women. For instance, in the past week, she has expressed skepticism of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention s finding that women are heavy drinkers if they have eight or more drinks per week. Ms. Gunlock has taken on Michelle Obama s school lunch program and questioned how out of touch the Administration is with parents ability to feed and make decisions for their own children without government infringement. Ex-mayor Michael Bloomberg s ridiculous attempt to limit the sale of large containers of soda in New York City has been another issue which she has addressed. Ms. Gunlock is a Senior Fellow at the Independent Women s Forum and directs the organization s Culture of Alarmism Project. She has written about food and culture for the New York Post, the Washington Post, New York Daily News, the Los Angeles Times, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, the Washington Times, National Review Magazine, National Interest Magazine, the Tampa Tribune, and Townhall.com. She is a regular contributor to National Review Online, BlogHer, and Huffington Post. Prior to joining the Independent Women s Forum, Ms. Gunlock was a Professional Staff Member on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and on the House Homeland Security Committee. She, also, served on the staffs of Ohio Senators Mike DeWine and George Voinovich. Ms. Gunlock can be seen on Fox News, TheBlaze TV, and other networks, and she is a regular guest on local, regional, and national radio programs. She is the author of From Cupcakes to Chemicals: How the Culture of Alarmism Makes Us Afraid of Everything and How to Fight Back, and her book will be available this evening. VFRW to Host Boots on the Ground Soiree at Historic Liberty Farm On Sunday, August 24, 2014, the Virginia Federation of Republican Women (VFRW) will host Boots on the Ground Soiree a statewide fundraiser at Liberty Farm in Paris, Virginia. The Boots on the Ground Soiree will include Michele Wilson s Top Flight BBQ, wine from Marterella Winery, Robert Mabe and the DryMill Road Bluegrass/Newgrass Band, a live and a silent auction, and a limited number of free Beanie Elephants given to the first children who check-in to the event. On behalf of the Republican women of Virginia, I hope you join us for a lovely summer afternoon event at heavenly Liberty Farm in our great Commonwealth of Virginia. The members of the VFRW are the boots on the ground, and the purpose of our fundraising is to provide resources to be able to continue to educate ourselves and our communities of the value of smaller more efficient government, announced Linda Bartlett, President of the National Federation of Republican Women. Bartlett continued, It s fitting the venue for our event is none other than Liberty Farm owned by Martha Boneta, a champion for property rights and liberty in the Commonwealth. We must continue to put boots on the ground to stand up for our rights. Martha Boneta, a Virginia farmer and owner of Liberty Farm, welcomes all to her historic farm: Virginia has a long and proud history of being a beacon of both liberty and family farms. That s why hosting this important soiree at Liberty Farm is such an honor for me. Let us join united hands on August 24th and celebrate Virginia s farm heritage for this most worthy patriotic event! To RSVP for the event and see a list of hosts, sponsors and benefactors, please visit www. VFRW.org.
