Why not introduce them to Rotary this month. Rotary Sunrise welcomes Sherri Bodden-Cowan Rotary Sunrise is pleased to welcome our guest speaker Mrs. Sherri Bodden-Cowan. Sherri is a Director and shareholder of Bodden Corporate Services Ltd.and is the founder and a partner of Bodden & Bodden Attorneys at Law. Sherri is an attorney and specializes in real estate law, licensing and immigration law. Sherri has served the Cayman Islands in a number of immigration related roles including terms as Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Immigration Board and is currently Chairperson of the Trade and Business Licensing Board. She is the Chairman of the Immigration Review Team and is responsible for leading it through a period of public consultation on the draft Immigration Bill and it is in this capacity that she addresses today's meeting. Ms. Bodden sees the forthcoming changes to the Immigration Law as vital for Cayman s efforts toward managing the population. She believes a lack of long term planning has not helped the Islands effectively address the problem of immigration, and thinks that any changes to the law need to factor in not only growth management issues, but also human rights responsibilities which is why she encourages everyone to take an active role in providing input for the bill. Raffle winner receives prize Myles Perryman, the winner of the Ford Explorer, was at our meeting the day the lights went out last week. Myles was delighted to get up early on Wednesday morning to get his first look and the keys to the vehicle. The net amount raised from the raffle is $48,000 which will be used to fund projects during this Rotary year. This year it ran from 17th - 20th July. PP Woody and PP Michael assisted with food tasting the first 2 days and President Tony helped with judging on the last day. Because of this programme we now have three young Caymanians becoming chefs - one is about to start her programme at Johnson and Wales in North Carolina, while the other two are going to be doing the Hospitality Apprenticeship Programme through UCCI. The program is organized by James Jamo Myles the Youth Services Coordinator, Youth Services Unit. Leaders of this program visited Sunrise last week and collected a donation from New Generations Director Deirdre McFarlane who presented it on behalf of the Club. Book donation initiative Last week's guest speaker, Hilary McKenzie Cahill from Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) Special Economic Zone gave a very informative presentation on this initiative despite not being able to deliver her planned Powerpoint presentation due to the power cut. Hilary was our first guest speaker this year and President Tony used his vote of thanks to her to announce a new initiative of the Club in the literacy arena. Each week there is a guest speaker a book, dedicated to the speaker will be donated to a public library in the Cayman Islands. 12-08-01 6:16
