Thailand Visa Guide Now that you have secured your internship, this guide will walk you through the visa application process and all other legal documents you may need. This is just a guide, please get in touch with your local Thai embassy for updated details. Visa Application: Colombian Nationality 1. About the visa: a) Type of visa: You will be applying for a non-immigrant visa type ED Single Entry that stands for Educational visa. We recommend Single Entry because 99% of the time, ED visa is given a Single Entry. If you need to leave Thailand during your internship, at the airport, when going through immigration please request the officer for a re entry on your visa, it will cost you 1,000 THB. The following link has all the details: http://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/re-entry-permit-thailand.php b) Visa Eligibility for ED visa: To apply for a visa, a foreigner must: Possess a valid passport or travel document that is recognized by the Royal Thai Government. Have a Support Letter from your University stating that the internship is part of his/her studies In addition, the visa applicant must be outside of Thailand at the time of application. c) Validity of a visa: The validity of a visa is for 3 months initially and will be extended every 90 days while in a neighboring country. The maximum stay is for 12 months. The validity of a visa is displayed on the Arrival Stamps. d) Processing time You can apply up to 3 months before the intended arriving date to Thailand. It takes 2-4 business days to have a visa resolution. For the applications received via mail (DHL) the time counts starting from the time the package is received. Therefore, you need to add the time for the package to be delivered and sent back to the applicant. The Thai embassy recommends people apply for the visa between 15 30 days before the planned arrival date. e) Visa Fee The cost is 2,000 Baht (70 USD) for single entry. For Non-ED visa, multiple-entry visa is not allowed.
2. For help filling out the application form, click here: https://goo.gl/knqfkc Photograph (6 copies of size: 4 x 6 cm) & (6 copies of size: 3 x 4 cm) with white background and formal non-white shirt. Bring all the photos with you to Thailand. 2 Passport with validity not less than 1-year after the scheduled returning date 3 4 6 7 University Support Letter (2 original copies for 6 months internship / 4 original copies for 12 months internship). We will prepare the format. Needs to be signed and stamped by your University. Proof of adequate finances Bank Statement of the student or his/her parents with a minimum of 12,000 MXN balance in the last calendar month. If the Bank Statement is under the parents name, please add: Scanned copy of the ID card with signature of the parent who is providing the Bank Statement Original Birth Certificate of the student needs to be presented Economic Letter - we will prepare the format. Needs to be signed by the person providing the Bank Statement. University Identification showing your name and, ideally, that you are a current student Provided by host company and WWI: Internship Contract - including the training plan, signed by host company and intern. b) Apply for your visa: C1: Print your documents: Once we have reviewed your visa application documents, we will send you a link via Podio for printing. C2: Payment: Make your payment at the embassy when submitting your application. C3: Apply at your local Embassy: Please make sure you inform the embassy upon submission you are applying for ED visa, once you pick up the visa at the embassy, please check that it says ED visa. a. If you are located outside Bogota: A friend or family member may submit your application on your behalf. You will need to post the full visa application package to them. Unfortunately, we do not have local support in Bogota to help with this. You may use a travel agency to help. ANATO is a travel agency association that would be good to contact. Important notes: Please keep every original copy of the documents submitted and bring them with you to Thailand. You will need some original documents in order to apply for a work permit and visa extension (University Support Letter, Photographs, etc.).
Once you have your visa 1. Take a photo of your visa and send it to us via Podio to verify you got the correct visa type 2. Prepare for your arrival: Book your Arrival call at: www.worldwideinternships.org/support We will walk you through your arrival guide; details about your airport pick-up, arrival check-in, housing, packing, flights, evaluations, and local support. Start looking for flights (www.kayak.com www.google.com/flights www.skyscanner.com) Once you arrive in Thailand You will need to remember these 3 important steps In case your internship is not in Bangkok, we highly recommend you to spend 2-3 days in Bangkok to do the following: 1. Send us a scan/photograph or your Arrival Stamp and your Departure Card Arrival Stamp looks like this: Important: The Departure Card is given to you at the airport, remember to keep your Departure Card safe, staple it to your passport. Do not fill in the departure card until you are flying out of the country. Please note, that there are penalties if the departure card is lost.
2. Orientation/ Welcome Lunch Depending on your arrival date, we will assign you to join us for your arrival check in & welcome lunch on the closest Monday. This is held once a week, you will be able to meet other interns arriving on the same week as you. 3. Medical Check-up: Needs to be done at a local Thai Hospital/Clinic You will need this certificate to apply for your work permit Costs around 600-1,500 THB (20-45 USD) If you are outside Bangkok, the hotel will guide you through this process If you are in Bangkok, we recommend these 2 hospitals: 1. https://www.bch.in.th/en/ (we recommend this, cost is 800 THB) 2. www.bnhhospital.com/medical-service/advance-diagnostic-centre/ After you start your internship 1. Work permit - in the first month The host company will process your work permit during your first month They will need your passport, please give it to your HR on your first day Costs 1,500 THB for 6 months // 3,000 THB for 12 months o In most cases, this is paid for by the host company
2. Visa Re-application - To be done every 90 days You will need to re-apply for your visa at a neighboring country; this applies to Colombian nationals, you have 2 options: a. Use our partner visa agency All-inclusive package b. Individually organized Common cities for this are, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Siam Reap in Cambodia, or Laos. The extra costs for flights and hotel outside of Thailand will be incurred by the candidate.
