City of Puyallup City Council Salary Review Commission Minutes Puyallup City Hall, Council Chambers October 4, 2018 (These minutes are not verbatim. Commission Members Present: Chair Jacob Gibbs, Vice Chair Mike Brown, Commissioner: Paul Herrera Commission Members Absent: Theresa Fremont (Excused), Pat McGregor Staff Present: City Clerk Mary Winter Chair Gibbs called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Commission Action: A motion was made by Mr. Brown, second by Mr. Herrera to approve the agenda as published. The motion passed 3-0. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Minutes of June 14, 2018 Commission Action: A motion was made by Chair Gibbs, second by Mr. Brown, to approve the minutes of June 14, 2018 as presented. The motion passed 3-0. PUBLIC COMMENTS public were in attendance. UPDATED CODE SECTION 2.05 A copy of the finalized ordinance updating the comparable data criteria was provided in the packet for the Commissioners information. Those updates affected the population requirements to be within a 25 percent range of Puyallup s, removal of specific city names and including cities within Thurston County. Mr. Brown thanked the commission and city clerk for the work on bringing this item forward which will provide more realistic guidelines for their duties. COMPARABLE ELECTED OFFICIAL SALARY DATA Ms. Winter indicated she had gathered and calculated the Comparable Salary Data and noted there had not been much change in the data since last year. In the comparison she included the proposed changes in anticipation of the city council s approval of the proposed ordinance. 3

Council Salary Review Commission Agenda Item Report Submitted by: Mary Winter Submitting Department: Meeting Date: 11/08/2018 Subject: 2019 Commission Meeting Calendar Presenter: Recommendation: Consider any changes to the meeting day and approving a meeting calendar for 2019. Background: In an effort to be more efficient in preparation for meetings, staff suggests approving a meeting calendar for the year 2019. According to the Puyallup Municipal Code (PMC) section 2.05.050 - Meetings, the commission shall meet no less than three times each year: once during the months of February or March; once during June or July and at least once during the months of October or vember. At least one of the meetings shall include a public hearing to provide an opportunity for the public. the mayor, deputy mayor, or city council members to address the commission. The PMC does not dictate the day of the week that the commission meets, so if the commission would like to consider a meeting day change we could to that as well.
