UNSW Australia Music Performance Unit Willgoss Choral Composition Prize Conditions of Entry By entering the Willgoss Choral Composition Prize, you agree to abide and be bound by the following Conditions of Entry: 1 Prize Organiser 1.1 The Prize organiser is The University of New South Wales, ABN 57 195 873 179 as represented by UNSW Australia Music Performance Unit Ground Floor, Robert Webster Building Gate 14, Barker Street Kensington NSW 2052 Australia ("UNSW Australia ). 2 Who can enter? 2.1 The Prize is open to any individual who is a permanent resident or Australian citizen. There is no age limit. 2.2 If an entrant is under the age of eighteen (18), a parent/guardian must enter the Prize on their behalf. 2.3 Only one entry per entrant will be accepted. Entries must comply with the requirements set out under the heading How to Enter below: 2.4 Employees of UNSW Australia and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter. (By employees we mean full-time and part-time employees, employed on either a permanent or casual basis. By immediate family members we mean children, siblings and parents of the employee). 2.5 Incomplete entries will be deemed invalid and excluded from the Prize. 2.6 Defamatory, racist or otherwise offensive entries will be invalid and excluded from the Prize. 2.7 UNSW Australia reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and the eligibility of entrants and to disqualify any entrant who does not meet the eligibility criteria set out in this paragraph 2 or who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Conditions of Entry. 2.8 All decisions about the eligibility of entrants and the validity of entries made by UNSW Australia will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. 2.9 UNSW Australia will acknowledge receipt of all entries. 3 Objective of the Prize 3.1 The objective of the Prize is to inspire, encourage and promote composers to be creative in composing choral music in Australia.

4 How to enter 4.1 The Prize commences on 17 July 2017, at 9.00a.m Eastern Standard Time and closes on 31 January 2018 at 5.00p.m Eastern Standard Time ( Prize Period ). 4.2 To enter the Prize during the Prize Period the entrant must via the entry form which can be found at http://www.music.unsw.edu.au/choral/willgoss-choral-composition-prize: (a) submit an 8 to 10 minute original Choral Score (Score) for unaccompanied mixed choir to be performed by Burgundian Consort that must include 4 to 6 voice parts including soprano, alto, tenor and bass (SATB) and no more than one division of any vocal part; and (b) the Score must be an original work of the entrant and not copied from any other work and must not have been previously performed in public, recorded for public release or performance or rewarded in a previous composition competition or prize. (c) By entering the Prize the entrant warrants and represents to UNSW Australia that: i. he/she is the sole owner of the copyright in the Score and/or that he/she has the complete right, power and authority to enter the Score in the Prize; and ii. If his or her Score is the winning entry, the public performance of the Score at the Burgundian Consort annual concert and any other use of the Score contemplated by this Prize will not infringe the intellectual property rights or moral rights of any person. (d) to be a valid entry, entrants must submit four complete hard copies of their Score to the Operations and Artistic Coordinator, UNSW Music Performance Unit, Room G19 Ground Floor Robert Webster Building, Gate 14 Barker Street UNSW Sydney NSW 2052 by the due date. Electronic submissions will not be accepted. Recordings will not be accepted; (e) Scores should have the title of the work and the name of the entrant only on the front page of the Score. The front page will then be removed to ensure anonymous consideration of the Score by the jury. No other identifying marks should be elsewhere on the score. 4.3 Entries not submitted during the Prize Period or not completed in accordance with these Conditions of Entry will not be valid entries and will not be considered by the jury. 5 How the winning entry will be selected 5.1 This is a Prize based on skill not chance. The members of the jury will not be provided with the name or other personal details of the entrants. 5.2 The winning entry will be selected as follows: (a) There will be only one prize awarded. It cannot be shared. The winning entry will be decided by a panel of three jurors appointed in the sole discretion of UNSW Australia including the Choral Director of the Music Performance Unit (or nominee) as Chair and Jury Panel Convenor, one member of the School of Arts and Media academic staff with

expertise in composition, and one leading choral director from an external organisation, by invitation. (b) The selection criteria used to select the winning entry will be based on the jury s assessment of the merit of the Score with regard to: i. musical creativity, originality, and personality; ii. the demonstration of a high level of craft, technical competence; care and professionalism in the presentation of the Score, and iii. aesthetic qualities and matches the Burgundian Consort s aptitude. (c) The jury will award one Highly Commended with prize money of $AUD1000.00 if a work is deemed suitable. 5.3 The judges jury s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 6 Prize Details 6.1 The winner of the Prize will receive a cash prize of $AUD3000.00 in addition to the opportunity to have his/her Score performed by the Burgundian Consort s at its annual evening recital in September 2018 and recorded at a professional standard. 6.2 The winner will be decided and announced on Monday 19 March 2018. The winner will be notified via the contact details provided and their name, together with their winning entry will be published on the UNSW Australia Music Performance Unit website 6.3 The winner will have their prize posted out to them by cheque before Monday 16 April 2018. 7 Unavailability of Cash Prize 7.1 In the event that for whatever reason, the cash prize described becomes unavailable, UNSW Australia reserves the right to substitute the unavailable prize for a prize of equal or greater value. The substituted prize is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. 7.2 The Prize and these terms and conditions will be governed by Australian law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales, Australia 8 Unclaimed prizes 8.1 In the event that UNSW Australia is unable to contact the entrant who submitted the winning Score by Monday 19 March 2018, UNSW Australia reserves the right to award the Prize to another valid entry. The selection of an alternate valid entry will be determined in the sole discretion of UNSW Australia. In such circumstances, the new winner/s will be notified by Monday 9 April 2018.

9 Limitation of liability 9.1 In the case of the intervention of any outside act, circumstances or event which prevents or significantly hinders UNSW Australia s ability to proceed with the Prize on the dates and in the manner described in these Conditions of Entry, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strike, war, or act of terrorism, UNSW Australia may in its absolute discretion cancel the Prize and UNSW Australia will have no liability to any entrant or any other person as a result of such cancellation. 9.2 UNSW Australia will not be liable for any misadventure, accident, loss or claim (including but not limited to a claim for infringement of any copyright, trade mark or other intellectual property right, or any claim of a similar nature) that may occur as a result of an entrant s entry into the Prize. 10 Intellectual Property 10.1 Each entry remains the property of the entrant who submitted it. 10.2 By entering the Prize, each entrant warrants to and for the benefit of UNSW Australia that (a) their entry is original and that he/she is the sole owner of the copyright in the Score and/or that he/she has the complete right, power and authority to enter the Score in the Prize; and (b) the public performance of the Score at the Burgundian Consort annual concert and any other use of the Score contemplated by this Prize will not infringe the intellectual property rights or moral rights of any person. 10.3 By entering the Prize, each entrant consents to grant, the following royalty free, non-exclusive licences of copyright in their Score: (a) to UNSW Australia for an unlimited period, the right to reproduce and publish the Score and/or a sound recording of a performance of the Score on the UNSW Australia website and in any media now known or hereafter devised for the purpose of promoting the Prize and UNSW Australia only; and (b) to UNSW Australia the right of reproduction of the Score to each member of the choral choir for the purposes of preparation and rehearsal for performance of the Score at the annual recital of the Burgundian Consort. 11 Privacy 11.1 UNSW Australia may collect, store and use personal information in order to conduct the Prize and for related purposes referred to in paragraph 10.3 below, and may, for this purpose, disclose such information to third parties, including but not limited to agents, contractors, and, if required, to Australian regulatory authorities. 11.2 By entering the Prize, each entrant is deemed to have expressly consented to the collection, storage, disclosure and use of their personal information for the purposes identified in these

Conditions of Entry in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) and all other applicable privacy legislation. 11.3 In addition by entering the Prize, each entrant acknowledges and agrees that UNSW Australia may, for an indefinite period, unless otherwise advised by the entrant in writing collect, store, disclose and use all personal information collected by UNSW Australia about the entrant in connection with this Prize for promotional, marketing, publicity and research purposes.
