JULY 2013 NEWSLETTER Austin A.W.M. Publication JULY 2013/VOLUME 121
LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT With so many online tools like LinkedIn, Plaxo, and SheSource (which are still extremely valuable resources!), it s easy to justify foregoing professional networking events. But after the success of our June No-Host Networking Happy Hour, I began to reflect on the importance of building relationships in person. Sure, it s easy to add dozens of online connections per day, but in my opinion, the quality of the few relationships you will establish at a networking event is far more beneficial for professional development and career advancement; I remember the people I spoke with for even just a few minutes to a much higher degree than any of my online connections. For this reason, I m going to set a personal goal of attending at least one networking event per quarter to continue developing my own professional relationship-building skills. We d love to know what online versus offline networking means to you, too, so send us a message or email and stay tuned for shout-outs on Facebook and Twitter!
