Launch of HDRSA 2013 Launch in Lahore: Water for Human Development on the 12 th of September at the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore. The event was chaired by Syed Babar Ali, the visionary leader and Pro-Chancellor of LUMS. The key findings of the Report were presented to the audience by Mrs. Khadija Haq, President of the Mahbub-ul-Haq Center. Dr. Shahid Javed Burki, former Vice President of the World Bank delivered the key note address for the event, highlighting the timeliness and relevance of the Report for South Asia s sustainable water future. Other distinguished panelists at the session included Dr. Sohail Naqvi, the Vice Chancellor of LUMS and Mr. Ahmed Rafay Alam, a water expert and Secretary of the Ravi River Commission. Dr. Sohail Naqvi, Mrs. Khadija Haq, Syed. Babar Ali, Dr. Shahid Javed Burki, and Mr. Ahmad Rafay Alam Launch in Islamabad: After a successful launch in Lahore, the Mahbub ul Haq Human development Centre launched the South Asia Human Development Report 2013 on Water for Human Development to the Islamabad audience. The event took place on the 19 th of September at the Islamabad club and was attended by distinguished individuals from the government, NGO and academic sectors. The chief guest of the event was Honourable Sartaj Aziz, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security. Professor Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister for Planning and Development chaired the event. The key findings of the

Report were presented to the audience by Mrs. Khadija Haq, President of the Mahbub-ul- Haq Center. Other distinguished panelists included Dr. Asim Sajjad Akhtar (Assistant Professor at Quaid-i-Azam University) and Mr. Pervaiz Amir (Senior Economist at Asianics Agro Development). The event was attended by prominent international organizations in Islamabad, as well as government officials, and academics. Launch in Delhi: Water for Human Development in collaboration with UNESCAP in Delhi, India. The Report was launched in a special session as a part of UNESCAP s Policy Dialogue on Regional Cooperation, Connectivity and Inclusive Development in South and South-West Asia held on the 28-29 of November in the Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi, India. The special session on regional cooperation, human development and water in Delhi was chaired by Dr. Mihir Shah, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India. The key findings of the Report were presented by Mr. Qaiser Shaikh, Member of the National Assembly, Pakistan and a prominent board member of the Mahbub ul Haq Human Development Centre. Distinguished panelists at the session included experts and high level government officials from all over South Asia: Ambassador Tariq Karim (High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India), Dr. Arvind Kumar (President of India Water Foundation), Mr. Hongpend Liu (Chief Environment and Development Division, UNESCAP, Bangkok) and Mr, Arunabha Ghosh (CEO, Council for Energy, Environment and Water, New Delhi). The event took place on the 21 st of October 2013, at the BRAC Centre Inn Auditorium in Dhaka. Professor Nazrul Islam, former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), was the Chief Guest, while Professor Ainun Nishat, Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, chaired the function. Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Distinguished Fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) was the Special Guest of the ceremony. Distinguished panelists included Mr. M. Syeduzzaman (former Finance Minister of Bangladesh), Mr. AMM Nasir Uddin, (former Secretary, Ministry of Health in Bangladesh), Ms. Qamrun Nahar Khanam (Additional Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources Bangladesh; and Dr. M. Azaharul Haq (Former Managing Director, WASA, Bangladesh). Academics, researchers,

experts, politicians, representatives from think tanks and donor organisations, civil society members also attended the programme. Mr. M. Water for Human Development in Karachi on December 4 th, 2013 in collaboration with Hisaar Foundation. The Report was presented in a special session as a part of the two day International Water conference Water cooperation in Action: From Global to Grassroots on December 4 th and 5 th at the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi. The key findings of the Report were presented to the audience by Ms. Fazilda Nabeel, Senior Research Fellow at the Mahbub ul Haq Centre. The event was attended by distinguished water experts not only from Pakistan, but also from India and Bangladesh. In addition to the launch of the Report, the Centre presented a paper on the Determinants of transboundary water cooperation in the Indus Basin in a consultation session chaired by Mr. Sardar Tariw, Executive Director of Pakistan water Partnership and co-chaired by Dr. Nilofar Islam from the Ministry of Water Resources in Bangladesh. Seminars in Faisalabad University of Agriculture, Faisalabad Mahbub ul Haq Centre shared the findings of South Asia Human Development Report 2013, Water for Human Development at a national seminar organized by University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UoA) on the November 29th 2013. The event was Chaired by Dr. Allah Bakhsh, Chairman, Dept. of Irrigation and Drainage, UoA. Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor of UoA was the Chief Guest. On behalf of the Centre, Ms. Amina Khan presented on Water for People s well being and Trans-boundary water resource management in South Asia. Mr. Umer Akhlaq Malik shared Reports stance on the issues of water productivity and water pricing. Mr. Nazam Maqbool presented on Impact of climate change on water. Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB), Faisalabad On the invitation of NIAB, the Mahbub ul Haq Centre presented the South Asia Human Development Report 2013 on Water for Human Development on November 29, 2013. Key findings of the Report were presented by Umer Akhlaq Malik, Senior Research Fellow at MHHDC. This was followed by question and answer session answered by Centres research team comprising of Mr. Umer Malik, Mr. Nazam Maqbool and Ms. Amina Khan.
