Global Compact Objective 1 OBJECTIVE 1: Collect and utilize accurate and disaggregated data as a basis for evidence-based policies strengthen the global evidence base on international migration by improving and investing in the collection, analysis and dissemination of accurate, reliable, comparable data, disaggregated by sex, age, migration status and other characteristics relevant in national contexts, while upholding the right to privacy under international human rights law and protecting personal data.

Global Compact Objective 1 11 Actions IMPROVE national data collection by integrating migration-related topics in national censuses CONDUCT household, labour force and other surveys ENHANCE collaboration between State units DEVELOP AND USE country-specific migration profiles COOPEARTE with relevant stakeholders in countries of origin, transit and destination to develop research, studies and surveys

Global Compact Other Objectives OBJECTIVE 4: Ensure that all migrants have proof of legal identity and adequate documentation OBJECTIVE 8: Save lives and establish coordinated international efforts on missing migrants OBJECTIVE 9: Strengthen the transnational response to smuggling of migrants OBJECTIVE 17: Eliminate all forms of discrimination and promote evidence-based public discourse to shape perceptions of migration

Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, DESA (22 October 2018, Dubai, United Arab Emirates): Second World Data Forum High-Level Panel on Migration Statistics The Way Forward There is a paucity of basic data on international migration, and existing data are not fully utilized or shared. For example, 17 per cent of countries in Africa and 12 per cent in Asia have not produced official statistics on the number of international migrants since 2005.
