EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND EUROPEAN POLITICAL PARTIES

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT The European Parliament is the only directly-elected EU body and one of the largest democratic assemblies in the world. Its 766 Members are there to represent the EU's 500 million citizens. They are elected once every five years by voters from across the 28 Member States.

DURATION AND LOCATIONS Duration: 5 years Locations: Brussels (Belgium), Luxembourg and Strasbourg (France). 1. Luxembourg is the seat of the administrative offices 2. Meetings are conducted in Strasbourg whole Parliament, known as monthly plenary sessions. 3. In Brussels held committee meetings and any plenary sessions.

FUNCTIONS OF E.P. 1. Legislative power: is shared with the Council of the European Union 2. Democratic control: exercised over all the institutions, bodies, offices and agencies 3. Power of the purse: shared with the Council of the European Union

EUROPEAN PARTIES A political party at European level is an organization that follows a political agenda, consisting of national parties and individuals, and is represented in several Member States. There are currently six political groups more than unregistered

EUROPEAN PEOPLE'S PARTY The EPP is Europe s centre-right political family. It strives for a Europe of values close to the people and based on democracy, transparency and responsibility, as well as prosperity through the promotion of a social market economy.

ALLIANCE OF LIBERALS AND DEMOCRATS FOR EUROPE The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Party is the party for liberal democrat values in Europe. With more than 55 liberal member parties across the continent, it is translating the principle of freedom into politics, economics and all other areas of society. Founded in 1976 before the first European elections, it was established as the first true transnational political party in 1993. The ALDE Party provides an increasingly vital link between citizens and the EU institutions, and continues to grow in size and significance.

EUROPEAN GREEN PARTY The European Green Party is a political force that's clearly identifiable through our commitment to environmental responsibility, individual freedom, inclusive democracy, diversity, gender equality, global sustainable development and non-violence.

ALLIANCE OF EUROPEAN CONSERVATIVES AND REFORMISTS The Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists (AECR) brings together parties from across Europe that believe in personal liberty, parliamentary democracy, national sovereignty, strong families, low taxes, sound money, free trade and the rule of law.

EUROPEAN UNITED LEFT The European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) is a political group of the European Parliament gathering members who believe in the values of socialist and communist left. Are part of the group the European United Left party and the Nordic Green Left organization. Its current coordinator is Gabriele Zimmer.

EUROPE OF FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY GROUP The Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group is a political group of the European Parliament and it was born July, 1st 2009; it is composed by parties with a political program which is opposed to the bureaucratic centralism of the Europen Union.

UNREGISTERED MEMBERS GROUP The Unregistered is a parliament group of the Europen Parliament in which gather together the members who don t want to subscribe to an established political group or group whith less than 25 members.
