Regular Meeting of the Board, January 14, 2019 1-14-2818 PARTICIPATION AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS The Board recognizes the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of allowing members of the public to express concerns regarding agenda items. To permit fair and orderly public expression, the Board will provide a period for public comments at regular public meetings of the Board on meeting agenda items only. The presiding officer of each Board meeting at which public participation is permitted shall administer the procedures of the Board for its conduct. Comments will be limited to Board meeting agenda items with a time limit of 3-5 minutes. The presiding officer shall be guided by the following rules: A. Public participation shall only be allowed during the time of public comments on the agenda. B. Participants must be recognized by the presiding officer and must preface their comments by an announcement of their name, address, group affiliation and which agenda item they wish to address. C. All statements shall be directed to the presiding officer; no person may address or question Board members individually. D. The presiding officer shall: a. Interrupt, warn or terminate a person s statement when the statement is a complaint against any employee, or is too lengthy, personally directed, abusive, obscene, or irrelevant. b. Request any individual to leave the meeting when that person does not observe reasonable decorum; c. Request the assistance of law enforcement officers in the removal of a disorderly person when that persons conduct interferes with the orderly progress of the meeting; d. Call for a recess or an adjournment to another time when the lack of public decorum so interferes with the orderly conduct of the meeting as to warrant such action; Waive these rules with the approval of the Board when necessary for the protection of privacy, rights of any Board member or employee, or the administration of the Board s business. For 4 Against 3 1-14-2828 DISCUSSION ITEMS Sharon Abts Thank you to the maintenance and transportation teams, along with Ted for taking many hours on Sunday to clear snow from the parking lots and sidewalks and to check the condition of the state highways and county roads. Elementary report cards went home last Friday. 100 th day of school is Thursday, Jan. 17. 3 rd and 4 th grade teams are learning all we can about the upcoming ILEARN assessment. 50 4 th graders will participate in the NAEP test on January 30. IU music department is sponsoring the children s traveling opera troupe, ROK on January 18 at 1:00 pm in the Elementary Gym. 3 rd grade classes will participate in STEM activities during field trips to Crane in Early February. We are in the midst of long RISE observations. RISE parent meeting about IREAD-3 on Tuesday Feb. 5. 4 th grade French class will make a presentation about how they are learning to speak French. Patrick Ault Report cards went out Friday thanks to the secretaries for printing and sorting everything. Thank you to Lindsey Bailey and Tessa Wolfger for the Trauma Professional Development. We are in the middle of doing our grade level quarterly awards in the gym. Thank you the TA s for being so flexible when we have trouble finding subs. ILEARN state standardized test questions will be answered by DOE on January 24.We have an upcoming winter dance after school on January 29 th. The student council will have a food drive January 28 th -February 1 st. Good luck to our basketball teams as they gear up for SWIAC. Good luck to all middle and high school kids in band/strings/choir solo and ensemble competitions. Super bowl pitch in February 1 st. Join us!!! Doug Lewis We have had a lot of progress on the high school construction. We are sending 25 students to the STEM field trip sponsored by CRANE. We have wrapped up a successful first semester and the second semester is off to a great start. Students have been energetic and ready to learn since coming back from the holiday break. We are in the heart of the winter ECA season boys
and girls basketball, cheerleading, and dance is in full swing. Students in band, orchestra, and choir have been preparing for the upcoming state solo and ensemble competitions. We have begun the process for scheduling students for their classes for next year. Report cards will go home tomorrow at the end of the day. The cast for the musical Disney s The Little Mermaid has been selected and cast will begin working soon. We have a few upcoming field trips FFA to the statehouse and JAG will be attending Ivy Tech. We have FAFSA night scheduled for this Wednesday for parents who want to attend. 8 th grade parent night is scheduled for Wednesday, February 6. Ted Baechtold The exterior on the high school construction is almost complete, and should be finished by the end of the month. I hope everyone likes the way it looks. When it is finished, it will be something to be proud of. Duane Long Did we advertise the STEM field-trip to all students 7 th to 12 th grade? Doug Lewis We are sending 25 students on the field-trip. 2 engineering classes and 15 additional kids.
