Our Mission Founded in 2016, SIHMUN is a destination for students from all around the world to foster international co-operation in solving global problems of an economic, social, or cultural character focusing on the ever-growing Hospitality & Tourism industry. We take the initiative to promote respect for fundamental freedom for all without distinction as to race and gender and addressing the issues and opportunities to conserve the environment. With sustainable tourism we support the local economy at every destination and display openness to create lasting relationships with everyone around us. École hôtelière de Lausanne EHL is a hospitality management school in Switzerland, which is one of the leading hospitality schools in the world. It is located on a campus just on the outskirts of Lausanne. Today, the school welcomes more than 2.900 students from 115 different countries. Founded in 1893 by Jacques Tschumi, it was the first Hotel School in the world. It prepares students for senior international positions in the field of Hospitality and Services.
SIHMUN Switzerland s International Hospitality Model United Nations (SIHMUN) is a conference organized by students from the école hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) taking place on the EHL Campus from the 4th to 9th February 2019. During these five days an international student body mingles to encounter global problems of an economic, social, or cultural character focusing on the growing Hospitality & Tourism industry. With over 100 delegates set to attend from more than 10 world-renowned higher educational institutions, an enlightening experience awaits them. MUN Model United Nations (MUN) stands for an educational and academic simulation of diplomatic decision making. During an "MUN conference", students learn about diplomacy, international relations, the United Nations and other international organizations. MUN teaches participants, called Delegates, researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills. In addition they get involved in critical thinking, teamwork, cultural empathy and leadership activities. We strive to engage students and allow them to develop a deeper understanding of current world issues. Olympics and its effects These five topics build the pillars of the SIHMUN 2019 conference. By asking these questions, we want to inspire relevant discussions and hear current opinions on these matters. We aim to bring together future leaders of the industry coming from different backgrounds and countries to develop ideas on these topics. SIHMUN s goal is to discuss these heated topics as open-mindedly as possible so as to Sharing economy vs. conventional economy Services provide people with the opportunity to use and share the world s resources Governments are confronted with this shift of economy Should services in a shared economy be more regulated? The Executive Team Chiara Eckenschwiller Vice-President Chiara Eckenschwiller is both French and Italian, these two cultures brought her to discovering her passion in hospitality, food and lately, political and security-related issues. She loves meeting people from different cultures, sharing points of view and always seeking opportunities to do so. Valeria Winkelmann President Valeria Winkelmann from Switzerland, has a huge passion for debates and political issues which sparked her interest in this project. Travelling, discovering new cultures and especially new foods are what give her the desire to invest herself in every project. As an extravert, she is passionate about meeting people from around the world. Valeria is always on the hunt for a new challenge. Karthik Muralidharan Conference coordinator Karthik Muralidharan, a cultural mix of the disciplined Swiss and the lively attitude of Indians, has been actively involved in political and social debates. Being interested in politics from a young age brought him to the Model United Nations. He enjoys executing organizational tasks with enthusiasm and efficiency and loves engaging with people in debates. He is constantly searching for various opinions to further his horizons and include all perspectives.
The Sponsoring Team Grace Turro Grace Turro is an amiable Swiss girl with Mediterranean origins. She values orderliness but likes to spice things up from time to time.
