Form B Article 13, paragraph 4 (b) Mine clearance and rehabilitation programmes The High Contracting Parties shall provide annual reports to the Depositary... on: (b) mine clearance and rehabilitation programmes; Remark: High Contracting Party REPUBLIC OF TURKEY (TR) reporting for time period from 1 2007 to 30 2008 Mine clearance programmes - The Specialized Mine Clearance Unit of the Turkish General Staff is continuing mine clearance activities, using the method of open-air destruction on site. The 510 km long minefield on the border with Syria will be cleared under the management of the Ministry of Finance (Directorate General for National Real Estate Affairs), in compliance with the related Governmental Decree. - A draft law is prepared and submitted to the Parliament on mine clearance and tender facilities to take place along the land border between Turkey and Syria. The first hearing was held at the relevant Commission of the Parliament on 10 April 2008. - Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) Munitions Disposal Facility was put into service on 8 November 2007. The facility is located in Yahşihan/ KIRIKKALE. The construction of the facility has been conducted in accordance with the agreement between Turkey and the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) signed in 2005. The destruction process of antipersonnel mines continues in the TAF Munitions Disposal Facility. - Mine detection and mine clearance activities regarding mines laid by the PKK/KONGRA-GEL terrorist organisation continue. Rehabilitation programmes State and university hospitals in addition to the Rehabilitation Centre of Turkish Armed Forces provide victim assistance to civilians as well as military personnel.

Form F Article 13, paragraph 4 (f) Other relevant matters The High Contracting Parties shall provide annual reports to the Depositary... on: (f) other relevant matters. Remark: High Contracting Party REPUBLIC OF TURKEY (TR) reporting for time period from 1 2007 to 30 2008 Other relevant matters - Colleagues from ICRC, ICBL and ISU visited Turkey on 22-23 May 2008. They paid a visit to the TAF Munitions Disposal Facility and were briefed on the progress of work. They also visited the Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for mine victims. - Furthermore, the President of the 8th Meeting of States Parties (MSP), His Royal Highness Prince Mired, accompanied by the Director of the ISU, paid a working visit to Ankara on 6-8 October 2008. During their visit, they were briefed by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as military and other related authorities regarding Turkey s ongoing efforts to fulfill her obligations arising from the Mine Ban Convention. They also had the opportunity to visit the Turkish Munitions Disposal Facility. This facility currently operates with possible maximum capacity in order to destruct the remaining parts of the Turkish stockpiled APLMs.
