Printing & Copying The Main location of EPL has upgraded printing and copying procedures on the 2 nd floor. Earlier this year we introduced the Smart Kiosk, which allowed users to deposit money to a Library account; make a fine payment; pay for earbuds or a USB drive; or make copies. Over time, we realized that tying the Smart Kiosk to the copier tied up the copier for those who were trying to make computer printouts. To solve this unexpected problem, we removed the option of photocopying from the Smart Kiosk. The options for the Smart Kiosk (which you can think of as your library-equivalent of an ATM) are now: Patrons wanting to make photocopies will continue to use the coin machine to the left of the copier. This machine now takes both coins and $1 and $5 bills. Meanwhile we have added Print Release Stations to the main floor of the library. One Print Release Station is at Circ Desk 2 (at the top of the Broad Street stairs); the other is located at the Computer Assistance Desk, at the opposite end of the floor. Both are clearly marked. Patrons working from Circ2 or Information Services computers can go to either of the two print release stations and print to Circ2 or the Sharp Printer in Computer Assistance. We will shortly make these options available to those working from computers in the Computer Assistance area as well. Why are we doing this? Why add Print Release Stations and add to the steps you must take to obtain a printout? Easy. Doing this solves a couple of problems: With the Print Preview available at the Print Station you can decide if you really do want all those pages you just requested. Maybe one page is blank. Maybe one contains information you don t need. You can cancel the print job and select the exact pages you want. Our printers are getting old. Sometimes one is out of service. With the release station you ll be able to decide which machine you want to use and, when one is out of service, your printout will go directly to the working device. It may sound complicated. But it s easy. As easy as using an ATM. But if you do need help, please ask!
