In response to events in Charlottesville, VA and elsewhere, the LSA has issued the following statement, adopted by the Executive Committee on Aug. 25, 2017. Linguists Sought as Reviewers for NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Panels The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking GRFP panels composed of researchers and educators, including linguists, from a wide range of institutions, geographic locations, and disciplinary and interdisciplinary backgrounds. All selected panelists must attend one of several available orientation session webinars in November 2017; review approximately 30 graduate-school like applications over about 4 weeks beginning in early December; and participate in two panel sessions online in January 2018 to discuss the applications reviewed. No travel is required; the process is entirely virtual. To find out more about serving on a panel click here, to register to be a panelist, click here, and if you have further questions email panelists@nsfgrfp.org or call (866) 673-4737. 2017 Linguistic Institute It s been a month since the end of the 2017 Linguistic Institute. The University of Kentucky now has its regular students back in Woodland Glen I and Haggin Hall, attending classes in the magnificent Jacobs Science Building. But, perhaps, like for us, the Institute still reverberates in your life that selfie you took with Larry Hyman that s now your desktop wallpaper, the amazing paper idea you came up with about clausal arguments in Bantu, the lingering memory of the garden oasis at Michler s Kentucky Native Café. The Institute and the LSA would love to hear about your experiences. Please take a moment to send us a photo and/or a few words: https://lsa2017.uky.edu/my-testimonial Linguistics In The News 3
