Call to Order President Hardy County Schools Regular Board Meeting Hardy County Board of Education Office September 17, 2012 A., called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. B. Rodney Barr opened the meeting with prayer. C. Nancy Hahn led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. D. Introductions were made around the room. E. Approval of Agenda A motion was made by Loy Kesner, seconded by Dixie Bean, to approve the agenda. Superintendent Whitecotton requested to amend the agenda to change the Physical Education/ Health teaching position to a long-term substitute teacher position. On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved to amend the agenda. On the motion of Loy Kesner, seconded by Dixie Bean, the Board approved the amended agenda.

On the motion of Loy Kesner, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved to amend consent items to remove attachments 12, 13, and 14, for further discussion in executive session. On the motion of Rodney Barr, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved the amended consent items. IV. Unfinished Business A. EHHS/MHS Building Projects Bond Depository Site Plans Meeting Updates The Board discussed the deposit of the funds received from the bond sale. The financial advisor for the bond sales advised the funds be placed with the West Virginia Treasury. On the motion of Dixie Bean, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved the West Virginia State Treasury Department for bond depository. On the motion of Rodney Barr, seconded by Nancy Hahn, the Board approved to hold a Special Board meeting on October 11, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. for the sale of the school bonds for the EHHS/MHS facility projects.

Page 3 B. Child Nutrition Concerns Nancy Sisk Nancy Sisk, Child Nutrition Director, presented to the Board the new standards for food service. The new changes for this school year include: specific colors in vegetable choices reduction of meat servings use of whole grains at least fifty percent of the time low salt, low fat and a specific calorie count. V. New Business Hardy County Schools must meet these standards to receive reimbursement for meals. A. Approval of Financial Statement Veeta Burgess Veeta Burgess, Finance Director, presented the financial statement to the Board. The financial report resulted in a balanced budget. On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Loy Kesner, the Board approved the financial statement as presented. B. Student Accident Insurance Policy JFA Superintendent Whitecotton requested the Board review Student Accident Insurance Policy JFA for further discussion. C. Purchase of Maintenance Truck Steve Williams presented bids to the Board for a maintenance vehicle. On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved to accept the Superintendent s recommendation to purchase a three-quarter ton vehicle from state purchasing. D. Fundraiser Requests On the motion of Nancy Hahn, seconded by Rodney Barr, the Board approved fundraiser requests from each individual school as presented for the 2012-2013 school year. E. Mission Statements/Accomplishments The Board congratulated and commended Michael Funkhouser for being recognized as West Virginia Teacher of the Year for 2013. Margaret Shriver congratulated EHHS for making AYP. Nancy Hahn recognized and thanked the community for their support of Michael Funkhouser as West Virginia Teacher of the Year for 2013. Rodney Barr thanked Celesta Miller and the ProStart students for the delicious food at the reception for Mr. Funkhouser. Dixie Bean thanked Avery Anderson, Eric Vidischak, and his students for the newspaper they publish, The Beacon. Loy Kesner commended Micheline Williams and Emily Sherman for singing the National Anthem at the reception for Mr. Funkhouser. Barbara Whitecotton commended and recognized the students who passed their AP tests. Ms. Whitecotton also thanked Libby Foltz and Debbie Branson for their assistance at the reception for Mr. Funkhouser. Kathy Hardy thanked Lauren Moyers and Christine Droppleman for helping when needed.
