Iowa Genealogical Society Executive Board Meeting April 9, 2015 The MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER by President Theresa Liewer at 1:00 p.m. in the IGS classroom. PRESENT were: Theresa Liewer President Marieta Grissom Secretary Tom Newell Treasurer Allaire George Region 4 Jennifer Ewing Executive Director Dennis Davies Education/Technology Absent: Rich Wolfe First Vice President Theresa declared a quorum present. MINUTES: Allaire & Theresa volunteered to review today s minutes. TREASURER S REPORT: Tom and Theresa presented the financial report. PERSONNEL BUDGET CLOSED SESSION: At 1:15 the board entered into closed session to discuss the personnel budget. At 1:30 the group resumed in open session. Three percent raises for all paid staff were announced. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR S REPORT: Attached. Jennifer continues to work on grant writing and seeking fund raising opportunities. The March 21 open house was well attended and considered successful. PRESIDENT S REPORT: Attached. Theresa continues to travel and speak wherever she can to promote IGS. Options for trying to increase memberships were discussed including the possibility of working with the area representatives to have area conferences. FIRST VICE PRESIDENT S REPORT: No report; absent; however, Rich s project to scan obituaries continues. SECOND VICE PRESIDENT S REPORT: No report; this is currently an open position. SHSI ISSUES AND PETITION: While IGS is concerned about the situation at SHSI, after discussion, it was recommended that we keep IGS members informed, but that we also work to maintain a positive relationship with the staff at SHSI. EDUCATION COMMITTEE REPORT: Theresa mentioned the need for more teachers for classes. CHAPTERS: One Clinton County society has dissolved. Also discussed the possibility of holding a daylong session for chapter officers in the fall to share ideas for projects and increasing membership. SPRING CONFERENCE PLANS: Everything should be ready.
50 TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION 2015 REPORT: Plans continue. Judy McLain is writing a history of the society. Kevin Spire has contacted the Des Moines Register about writing an article featuring IGS and the 50 th anniversary. BULDING AND GROUNDS: Gwen Hardy is taking care of the flower bed this year. Denny will repair some window trim. A generous contribution funded the purchase of nearly 100 new to us chairs for the West Wing. Acoustical tile has been added to some walls in the West Wing. Discussed the security system horn malfunction which has been fixed. Eleven 6-foot tables and a cart were obtained by Ken Booth. North and west side exterior siding needs paint. Jennifer will try to get paint at Restore. WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT REPORT: Denny report work is continuing on the website. PUBLICATIONS AND REVENUE SHARING: Revenue sharing checks for the second half of 2014 have been distributed. Going forward Warren County will donate their revenue sharing money back to IGS, however, they want a report showing what was sold. LIBRARY COMMITTEE REPORT: Work continues on barcoding for Koha, the new catalog system. FUNDRAISING: Outside Fundraising: Theresa and Jennifer have been meeting with Mary O Keefe to develop a plan for going outside our membership for fundraising. 50-50 Fundraiser: Discussed how to acknowledge chapters who contribute to the fund. GoFundMe? Due to the percentage of money that would go to the GoFundMe organization, IGS will not participate in that program.
