Licenses may be purchased by enclosing a money order for the license and issuance fee and mailing to: Marine Resources Division P.O. Box 189 Dauphin Island, Alabama 36528 There is no application form. Applicants for shrimp boat and purse seine licenses must include the registered vessel name or state registration number. A copy of the owner s driver s license is needed. Prior to purchasing a live bait dealer license, the person s boat, truck, or place of business must be inspected. Nonresident licenses may be purchased at Marine Resource Division offices at Dauphin Island, Bayou La Batre, and Gulf Shores. The Alabama Legislature passed into law (Act 95-287) which changes the law with regard to eligibility to purchase a commercial license in 1995 and subsequent years. In order to qualify to purchase a license, the applicant must show that he (a) purchased a license in two of five years during the years 1989 to 1993 and provide proof in the form of original unamended income tax returns that at least 50% of his income was derived from the capture and sale of seafood species (commercial fishing) or (b) that he purchased a license in each of the years 1989 to 1993 and paid his applicable Alabama income taxes in each of the years 1989 to 1993. Live bait dealer licenses may be purchased only from the Dauphin Island office. Other resident licenses may be purchased at county courthouses and selected agents. 2

The $2.25 is retained by the county. This also includes antique vessels which can be issued at no charge. ****Recreational SWL Exempt Categories Residents under 16 or over 65 years of age Any resident fishing in saltwater from land or from a structure fixed to land. Any individual saltwater fishing from a vessel, the operator of which is licensed pursuant to 370.0605(2)(b), F.S. Only one individual at a time onboard a vessel that has been issued a saltwater products license may claim exemption from the saltwater license requirement. 4
